After mangling my AC dryer lines this summer I worked with Mot to get a JDM solution to relocate the AC dryer into the engine compartment. Thanks Mot

This is one of those mods you just love - tight spaces to work in yet everything fits perfectly with exactly the result you wanted. The kit is basically hard lines to route into the engine bay in front of the battery plus a bracket that mounts up to existing holes.

The only difficulty was sensor lines that were too short and had to be spliced since the kit relocates the mount to the hard lines (and this was simple to do), and you have to be careful to tighten everything to prevent leaking. The hard lines have a bunch of adjustment that allows you to rotate the hard lines to get them in the right position, and you have very little room to work with to get everything tight. Patience is the key here.

End result - no more low hanging AC dryer and nice cold AC

After mangling my AC dryer lines this summer

mangling?

What I heard while I was going through the rock garden at Spring Creek was a loud popping sound followed by a Psssssssttttt. based on what I saw and heard, more like exploded :D It was a hot day and knew the ride home wouldn't be a lot of fun.

Glad you got it fixed.

I think it was a few feet after this spot

The lines were mangled, the system exploded :D. I never even felt the contact. We had to stop for  at Rock Bottom it was getting so hot. No AC for the summer was fun, but what was worse with our heavy monsoon season was the lack of dehumidification even just blowing vent air.

I did just end up using the existing dryer even though it was clearly no longer a "closed" system after the line ripped out. This is a $400 repair even though I got something good out of it. Get a dryer skid if you are leaving it alone, takes absolutely nothing to pop one of these suckers.

Looks like a nice kit and clean install

FYI Man-a-fre sells a nice A/C dryer for ~ $16 for the 80’s that’s a couple of inches shorter than stock
http://www.man-a-fre.com/pa/acreceiverdrier.htm

While I was replacing some other AC parts anyway I went with that and moved it up high enough (trim a plastic tab on the back of the signal light) so even with my shortbus bumper it’s not exposed.

What is the price before shipping?

I can't say what it would be day to day since Mot is sourcing JDM, but should be around $200.

And no new dryer is correct.

I'm a bit surprised this isn't a more popular mod...what you can do to front bumper clearance with that little problem corrrected is outstanding. One more thing I don't have the money for because I spent it wrecking my AC system :D

Do you see any problems with trying to use equivalent parts from 93-94 FZJ80?

Mot was confirming my year and I was under the impression there is also a kit for the 93-94, but it may be different. You can send him a PM and ask.

Nay,

Glad that your installation went smoothly and that you seem pleased with it!

They told me that they had a slightly different kit for the -'94, but I do not know what exactly is different from '95- kit.

I'm going to see if I can make it available for slightly less by doing a little negotiation with the manufacturer in the future.:grinpimp:

Oh, btw, beno... :flipoff2:

Mot;)

Bend your own tubes for a 1/4 of the price and be done with it....

;)

That's what i was thinking, but, seeing how fragile brake lines are, i thought for sure you would kink one or break one.

No, in America we got ripped off and didn't get several great options that the rest of the world got. One being the AC not in a good safe place as pictured in your pics. Our sit down under the front bumper ready to get whacked!

The bends on those lines into the bay/dryer are extremely tight. You have those adjustment threads just to get it through at the correct angle and then need to twist it back into alignment. I think this would be a very difficult job to bend yourself - you'd only save money if you consider your time as free and get it right the first time, which is something I'd doubt most people would succeed at doing (if at all).

I'm also not sure how you get the new tube mounted to the connection plugs - it's not just tube, and the system will leak unless everything is completely tight as I know firsthand on this install. I'm also not sure what the sensor does, but there's a plug on your stock lines that run along the driver's side edge of the bay that this kit retains.

This thing is plug and play in an extremely tight space, and comes out as complete as factory design. $200 is well priced.
