40 owner posting this in the 60 section, as my stock ac (not common in the 40) is the same as the 60. Have been getting a bearing whine when the ac clutch is not engaged, goes away when engaged. Compressor seems to work, ac blows cold. Is it possible that just the clutch is the issue and that a full compressor replacement is not needed? Thanks in advance for any intel or guidance!

Inside the free-wheeling clutch on the front of the compressor there is a sealed bearing. They are fairly easy to change, though you need to be careful when pulling the clutch off the compressor. There should be no damage to the compressor providing you don't wait too long and let the bearing lock up.
