All my lights are on like a christmas tree, ABS, VTRAC, BRAKE

Went to a reputable indy, they said they would need to replace the module to even pull any codes. ~2500!!!!!

I want to just replace it myself with a used unit from ebay. How do I access this unit to remove it? Trouble finding diagrams or anything. Where is it located?

I believe it's part #: 89540-60080

Thanks

First, the basic question: are they sure its the ECU? The same lights are typical with a wheel speed sensor failure. It would suck to start with the most expensive thing. To just double check, you can set the dash lights into diagnostic mode where you count the flashes of the lights, which correlate to a specific failure code. If you need some how-to steps on that, let me know, I have the FSMs and just went through it myself.

The ECU is in a bit of a painful spot. Driver side, under the dash, almost directly above the gas pedal. If you remove the driver side lower dash panel, you can see it better. It has 4 decent sized connectors plugging into it. Its a bit of a pain to get access to the connectors and bolts holding it in. Bubbles A41 thru A44 are the connectors, to give you an idea of the location.

Get techstream as a lot of the codes for various vehicle ECUs are Toyota/Lexus specific and cannot be read with a standard OBD II scanner. With techstream, I was able to confirm my skid control ECU was bad. It was not cheap! Local junk yards wanted $600 for a used one so for not much more you can get a new one. Just looked up the p/n you gave and it looks like a new one is less than $700. You are lucky as the one in my '03 was almost double that.

In summary, tech stream with cable - $25 on amazon (to confirm ECU is bad and then to reset lights), plus ~$700 for new ECU. That is a LOT less than $2500. While a pain to get to, it takes maybe 30 min to swap out.

X2 on getting all codes, and resetting them.
Could also possibly be the brake master cylinder, if it's in fault, no pressure, there will be no trac/abs/brake. Turn off engine, pump brake pedal 40 times, turn ign on, listen to brake motor/pump run and build up pressure in accumulator, time it, see how long it takes, it may start and stop a few times, if it keeps running and then lights and buzzer come on, I suspect the MC assembly, however, YMMV!

One other thing to do, after ensuring dry connections everywhere, unplug VSC ecu and see what you get, check brakes etc, try disabling vsc with switch etc.
Just so you know, water leaks in past the windscreen, roof rack bolts, perhaps sunroof, and runs down the loom and ends up in the connectors, making one input track or short to another giving spurious symptoms. Not saying your ecu isn't faulty, just worth going through the process so you don't replace it when it was a single drop of water in a connector.

Hey All,

Ended up buying an ABS module on Ebay and replacing it. So far so good! It's been raining heavy here. I've been checking for leaks but haven't really found anything

New to the 100 / 470 series vehicles. I just bought a 2001 lLX470 and the same thing is happening. I checked eBay and found several of them but it’s says it for a land cruiser. Are they compatible? Did you have to reprogram it? Thanks.

Does this unit need to be programmed? Dealer told me it did but i no see any reference here that it needs to be.

Anyone considering replacing the ABS module may want to read this first:

Hi there, I am attempting to replace the ABS control module on my 2007 LX470. I'm getting no communication to/from the module and I've already checked the fuses, which are fine. I found a used unit from another 2007 LX470 on eBay for a couple hundred bucks. so I have two questions:

1) What techstream device should I use? I saw in this thread that someone bought one on Amazon for $25 that can pull and clear codes. Can anyone send me a link?

2) Will I need to program the unit once it is installed or should it be fairly plug and play?

Thanks!

I had the same symptoms. There was no connection between the control module and the abs/speed sensor on one wheel. It turned out to be a faulty cable. The cable was replace, the connection restored and all xmas tree lights were gone.

2004 LC w/ 89,321 mi. ABS, both TRAC and the skid lights come on. Toyota dealer said the ABS module is bad....unfortunately have to trust them. Have done the research to DIY replacement with OEM and as much of it I can do I decided to bit the bullet and get it done correctly. $2,387
