About to pull the trigger on a 98

I went to look at a 98 Hundo this morning - it had nearly 300k miles but started right up and purred like a kitten. Temps barely got over 180f on the highway. It didn’t steer like a barge like other 100s I’ve driven - lots of recent maintenance with OEM parts (see description attached below).

The only issues I noticed was a very sticky transfer case - you really had to arm wrestle it to get into 4lo, and some very light surface rust on the underbelly (I couldn’t tell how much of this was dirt, however). The rear locker did evtuslly work, but I had to drive it on a dirt road for a few hundred meters to get it to stop blinking.

No ticking from the manifolds, and no visible leaks underneath from the rack, VCGs, etc.

They’re asking 7500 - does this seem like a fair price? I’m prepared to go out tomorrow with a cashiers check and pick it up if so.

Also, are the frames on these known to rot from the inside out like the Tacomas of the same vintage?

In any case, please let me know if anything looks awry in the pics below.

that level of rust wouldn't scare me away (actually looks more like dirt than rust) nor would the miles. It's all about how it's been maintained , hopefully you have some service records from the previous owner and they kept up with oil changes. the transfer case does get sticky if they're never used, with some "exercise" ( going in and out of low range over and over) as much as possible to get it working smoothly eventually.

7500 seems pretty good for the current market. 300k 100's in my area are currently going for 10k+.

There was a clean 100 series on Cars and bids a couple weeks ago with 300k miles. I was planning on bidding thinking it would go for 6-7k....it ended up selling close to 14k.

My main concern at this point is the tires being mismatched front to back, with Yokohama mats on the front and nearly-new Nitto ATs on the back. They’re both 285s, but would it be enough of a difference in size to cause issues with the running gear?

Are those proper constant tension clamps used for the cooling system?
