I can't believe it! I always had a problem with a strong smell of petrol inside my 4.7 Landcruiser.
After lots of advice to change the charcoal canister, I bought a new one and the problem was instantly cured. I was so pleased!
For about three months, not a whiff of petrol.
Now, suddenly the smell is back!
Very noticeable when I open the window... Absolutely no smell under the bonnet...Strong smell in the area of the petrol cap. Noticed the smell first, when the weather was hot ( about 24c ). Now the hot weather has gone but the smell hasn't.
What could it be?!!!

Possible faulty gas cap? Over here, they test our gas cap during our smog checks.

Dom, I can’t remember If you checked for cracks in your vapor re-circ system. (It’s the large plastic thing located next to your battery). Check there next time you smell fuel. You might try going to a radiator shop and have them use the sniffer around that area & any other places you suspect. I’m thinking the re-circ. area because it’s all plastic with some rubber hoses.
BTW, do you top off your tank when fueling?

Thanks guys, for the replys.
No, I also replaced the gas cap with a new one.
I presume that the vapor re-circ system is the charcoal canister that I replaced?
And no, I don't top when re fuelling. I will try and get a radiator specialist with a sniffer.
Thanks again!
