A750F not shifting into 4th gear...until ir warms up for a couple of miles?

Have you checked the fluid level? How is the color of the fluid?

I recall 01's were a larger batch that had transmissions issues as well...
 
If you have a 2001, then you have the A343F and not the A750F, which debuted in the 100 for model year 2003.
 
A343F...thanks! And don't laugh guys...but there's nothing in the manual about how to check the A/T fluid. The vehicle is warm...and not running...the color of the fluid is reddish...no smell...and the level was just a tad below that highest "V" on the stick. What's the best way to check? Cold? Hot? Running? OK...laugh. LOL!
 
One Full flush with synthetic, then report back. May as well flush power steering pump with same.

Check when hot.
 
I like mine right to top hot V, when really hot on hot day after shifting through all gears, but never above (never over fill). I find with synthetic it is hard to hit the top hot V, as synthetic runs cooler. This is after starting with reading when cold at cold top V, after I do a full flush. Mine never has changed levels between flushes.
Never set level below lower V in hot range while hot. Between is ok, but I get some slippage if near lower range (level).

Mine has done this for about the last 50k miles, 195k now. I wouldn't worry about it too much these trucks just have a mind of their own.

Fluid is perfect and no other issues other than a little bit of fluid seeping out of the pan which I just noticed last night.
 
I was once told this is emissions related and was designed to warm the cats.
 
Check level with engine running.
The converter will not lock up until the engine and box are up to working temp. That's what feels like "not going up to 4th". It's designed that way in order to heat it up faster, as a slipping converter creates heat.
 
Hello Norway. Yep for sure level with engine running I should have mentioned that, my bad.
I've never notice my 2001 not shifting (feeling) until at op temp, but I'm almost always under 30 mph until warmed up.
Regardless, I flush ~20K miles depending on driving condition. Much more miles than that and I start noticing shifting, under that shift has not been noticeable since I switched to synthetic ATF.
 
Oh oh...190,000 miles on the 2001. Last Toyota Trans Recirculate was done about 5 years ago. Maybe longer. Am I doomed?

2001 does not have an A750F:doh: you have the same trans as an 80 series

Both will not shift into high gear until the trans reachs operating temp IIRC 125°

How long have you owned a Land Cruiser and you just now :rolleyes:realized this:lol:

From the manual-

10. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
(a) Park the vehicle on a level surface.
(b) With the engine idling and the parking and foot brake applied, shift the selector into all positions from
the P to L, and then shift into the P.
(c) Pull out the dipstick and wipe off the fluid with a clean rag. Re−insert the dipstick fully and check that
the fluid level is in the HOT range.
(d) Do this check with the fluid at normal driving temperature (70 − 80°C (158 − 176°F)).
HINT:
Wait about 30 minutes before checking the fluid level after extended driving at high speeds in hot weather,
driving in heavy traffic or with a trailer.

Thanks guys. I just checked the level...it was just at the bottom end of the Hot area. I added a half a quart and will retry and check level again in the morning. I'll quit when I get it toward the top of the zone.
