has anyone succesfully ordered an a-trac switch from toyota and recieved it? ordered mine today and they said it was back ordered maybe 2-3 weeks. also talked to a toyota tech last night at a local cruiser club meeting he said he was working on a way to run locking rear diff. with the a-trac system. he said the early prototypes on the fj ran this version and the rig never lost traction he said it was unstoppable . {his words not mine} its kind of cool just thought i would relay what i heard . he said he would keep me posted . he also said the a trac switch will activate all fj's that already have the rear locking diff. if you dont have that it wont work.

The same Toyota tech also said Toyota has already paid TLC and TLC has the FJC's and were told to create a removable top, SAS, and throw a V8 in it. Just so you know what toyota has in mind for the future of the FJ.:D

Absolutely Serious

Is that Toyota Tech full of shiat or was he being serious?

He is more than a tech, he is a regional something rather and was dead serious. Said the work had started. he frequents this site and maybe if he sees this he will chime in. As a pricing note he said all dealers in this region were instructed that they were not allowed to mark up FJ's.

Very interesting. With the 4.7L V8/5-Speed/Full-Time 4WD and SFA I'd deffinately buy one if its still within a reasonable price.

that is true but you can guess with those kind of options the price will jump to the $40,000 dollar range.

The V6 puts out as much HP and torque as the 4.7L V8 and the 6-speed manual has FT 4wd. SFA will never come stock from Toyota but I believe you will find they do quite well off-road with the IFS. I'm a believer in SFA and agree they are better off-road but that doesn't mean the FJC with IFS is a slouch... quite the opposite, especially with a good driver.

4.0-liter DOHC 24-valve EFI VVT-i V6
236 hp @ 5200 rpm/266 lb.-ft. @ 4000 rpm

4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve EFI VVT-i V8
260 hp @ 5400 rpm/306 lb.-ft. @ 3400 rpm

Thats straight from Toyotas website. That would be 24 more horsepower and 40 more ft-lbs for the V8.

I meant to type 6-Speed manual, I'm aware that it come with full-time 4WD with the V6... but I would want that configuration with the V8.

Edit: Those figures are for the 4-Runner.

The same V8 in the UZJ-100:

4.7-liter DOHC 32-valve EFI V8
275 hp @ 5400 rpm/332 lb.-ft. @ 3400 rpm

The same V6 in the FJ-Cruiser:

4.0-liter DOHC 24-valve EFI VVT-i V6
239 hp @ 5200 rpm/278 lb.-ft. @ 3700 rpm

So no matter which way you go, the lowest powered V8 is still more powerful than the highest powered V6

I was thinking of the earlier 2UZ-FE engines with 230hp.

Even with the newer version of the 4.7l V8, there is no way anyone in their right mind would pay the $$$$ premium for 21 hp.

Add to that the fact that Toyota has never offered a V8 with a manual transmission (at least not that I've heard of.)

Unfortunately you just can't win tonight ;)
