So by chance, I picked up two large old-school Con-Ferr racks a few weeks back. One went on Pikachu, and the other needed a little more work and is going on this 40. Here's what it looked like when I picked it up.

Obviously it needed some paint work, but the slat flooring gave me an idea for a more classic look.

I bought some pre-stained 6' cedar fence pickets and cut them into three strips each. Turning out pretty nicely so far after 88 brass screws and counting.

Got things buttoned up with the rack. The feet were rusty, so I stripped and painted the steel but cleaned up the galvanized part and installed new hardware. I am really happy with it.

@Texican the decals are also applied on two corners like the originals were.

Middle pic looks like its lifting the drip edge some. Supposed to do that?
I think it’s just the way the camera caught it. But…you could easily bend a rain gutter with these old school racks. Gotta get it tight, but not too tight.

Broke 76,000 miles today.

Bought this 40 back in early 2010 with 70,300 miles. That is 5,700 really fun miles of driving and I think I like this rig more every day.

Took the pup for a burger in town and then hit the National Forest on the way home. Really nice day.
