Another nice build. Did you replace the windshield? I'm going to replace it in my 79 and just wondered if you use any sealer between the frame and the seal?
Thanks. Yes, we replaced the windshield with OEM glass and weatherstripping. There was no adhesive used. I had it painted when the glass was out so it was a really nice clean surface.....haven't had it out in one of our lovely FL downpours yet but I think it will be OK.

Thanks, I've got new genuine glass and new genuine seal too, so hopefully I wont need any extra sealant either.

I asked the glass guy about sealant...he said there was no use for it. The type of gasket has all kinds of channels(I thought 3 different ones) that keep water from getting in the truck and draining properly. No need for sealant. Plus without glue, it makes it a lot easier to replace using simple tools. Kind of important on these trucks that see hard use in rough places.

On newer cars they use glue to secure the windshield as the windshield becomes part of the structure of the car once it's bonded in.

Yeah I'm curious about sealant as well. My windshield is leaking at the 2 corners. it's leaking between the glass and gasket, NOT gasket and frame. Not sure if my gasket is just bad or sealant isn't working or what?

Any rust in the corners? Old gasket? I can't imagine those gaskets doing a whole lot of good once they've shrunk or have any cracks. The new one we used was really intricate....with all the channels, etc. Neat piece.

Fiberglass FRP windshield frame, but yeah I imagine like all the exterior seals, this one is dry rotted or cracked. I have 2 chips in it, maybe it's time to take it to the glass place and make them replace it.

Maybe the FRP frame isn't exactly the same as the OEM....I have one on my 73 but the cowl leaks so much that even if the windshield was leaking it wouldn't matter :)

I bet an old school glass place can figure it out....

Chris, can you post a link for that moulding? It looks like it would be perfect for my 55 if it's available in ivory. Thanks

although I didn't see ivory. Maybe you can get white and dye it with some SEM paint? If you really needed the ivory....you can order it for a HZJ78(roof)....I *think* that's a one piece deal on the 78.....2 pieces on the 75s. Seems like the 78 piece was ivory as I recall.

I used about 26-27' on my truck....so I would assume if you bought the 78 series stuff from Partsouq, you would get about 27 feet.

Are you using it for door openings?

Back to our side panels and storage.....came up with a simple solution.....a box mounted behind the panel.

Make a box out of aluminum,

Situate box on rear of panel

Cut opening out

Trim opening out with leftover edge moulding from roof project

We'll line the box with carpet once everything is dialed in.....going to repeat this for the other side. Surprising amount of storage in this little cubby.

How did you secure the cubby/box to the backside of the panel? This looks fantastic.

I will either bond them on with panel bond OR my usual go-to.....windshield adhesive. Being that it's all clean aluminum, some 3M double stick would probably work too. Need to figure that out.....hoping to spray some bedliner on them on Friday. I'm trying to NOT have any exterior fasteners.

Really happy with how it turned out too.....the right side is being done today....a little smaller because of the way the inner fender is but it will still be a good useful space.

Yes; for door openings. Come to think of it, they might be white or tan. Need to take a look. Thanks for link. Mine are in OK shape but it's always good to have a backup plan.

Made this side in about 1/2 the time of the other side. Not a very deep box but more storage is always a good thing.

With some luck, I may end up spraying them tomorrow with some Raptor. Anxious to get them on and be done with this part of the truck. Ready to move on to mechanical work so we can start driving this thing.

There’s cad drawings available of all of these interior panels on the Troop Carriers of Australia Facebook page.

Don't mean to threadjack but I don't really use FB. Could someone DM/Email me those CAD files? :)

I can't post the files on Mud....probably due to their format. I thought that you could download them from the Troop carriers of Australia Facebook page.

I have a .dxf and .dwg file

If you PM me your email address, I can send what I have that way.

Later in the day project.......Big Country 4x4 roof rack install. This has been sitting in our storage container for a bit.

Decided that the grey panels weren't working.....so we did them in color match Raptor. Not sure why the grey didn't work for me....I think it was too light. Needed to be dark grey. Black would have been good.
