A new twist to early fender marker lights

Cool.

It would be cool to put a small red tail lamp and a small amber blinker on the back of them too.

The '75+ ones are already separate, but the side lamp is only a marker. I've got some plans for fancy ones if I ever get a round tuit.

You're describing the very rare 1961-62 FJ40 fender lights. A quick search doesn't turn up a pic...

No, actually I was just thinking of drilling holes in those housings and having a rear-facing red and amber LED in parallel with the existing circuits, so there would be markers and blinkers facing the rear, for visibility to folks in the blind spot. They wouldn't need to be very big to be bright enough.

Nice work here.

Came across this on YT:

He says in the vid blurb he re-wired to turn the early style lights into blinkers.

he didn't rewire anything. the fender lights are turn signals. that's what they do factory. the issue is when he turns parking lights on, the left turn (fender) light comes on.

Ah. I thought those early fender lights were normally running lights.

Trollhole,
I was wondering if you knew where to get the grommets for the fender lights. I've been searching everywhere and just can't find them.
Any help would be great, thanks.

The one that's between the fender and the turn signal, and on that note any gasket/grommet for the lights. All I can find right now comes with the whole light. I'm at the point of buying new lights just to get the grommets/gaskets.

Edited:
The OE parts catalog shows the rubber grommets where the wire passes through the inner fender, but doesn't show a separate gasket bet. light and fender. The gasket is shown on a separate page that has exploded views of the light assemblies.

I looked on SOR and it had a part number
(
146-05A
Turnsig S/Grom-
Fits 1962-1968 FJ40/FJ45 PU)
but since mine is so old it's been discontinued... Guess I'll but new lights when the time comes and sell the ones I have cheap.

81514-60040. you'll have to find someone good with ancient part numbers tho...not a current one
