I was very impressed w/ the 62. I told them it wouldn't climb up those hills and they called me a P@#$%Y and of course I had to try. Thanks for the spotting, Rick. No winching or towing needed. However, my front bumper is a little twisted now.Let,s see....New bumpers, Sliders, Skid Plates,...etc.....

By the next time, I'll have my new 33's and a limited slip in the rear. We may try for a trip in the beginning of the year, but it gets COLD up in the mountains.

I've never been snow wheeling before...might be fun as long as it's not ICE.

How is your frame rust on your fj62

like all coastal 60's protecting the underlying steel for now. Gotta love em! Seems to me that there was very little rust on David's 62 compared to mine. And mine was sirface rust on the frame(god knows the body had lots of little rust spots) except where the PO idiot had welded in 6 inch angle iron in the tail. Ta Ta for now:beer:

I haven't found much rust on the frame...There's some issues w/ the body panels, however.

finally got a few transferred from the camera...

I need to download mine. I'll echo Rick's comments about large groups and exploration. And I'll add (from the land use management perspective) to be very thorough in your research before setting off on one of these exploration trips. The USFS is closing down roads left and right. This trip was very well researched and at no time did we (at least to the best of our knowledge) trespass on private property or traverse closed National Forest Land.

Also worth noting: only 3 rigs did the heavy exploring portion of this trip and it took nearly all day. If we had taken all 6 rigs into the wild, we would have never made it back to camp before dark. All three rigs took some carnage, from heavy pinstriping to bent sheet metal and bumpers. The taco messed up a front diff output bearing and seal, which required a parking lot fix to replace a seal in the differential to get him home without leaking out all his diff fluid.

To repeat Brock's sentiments, this is NOT the kind of trip you should expect your club officers to plan as a club event until the logistics are fully borne out. Once GPS tracks and firsthand observations are analyzed we will try to plan a trip that would work for a larger group.

Consequently, if anyone wants to scout out some new trails for club use, then I encourage you to do so. Just make sure you are not disrespecting any private property or breaking any local/state/federal laws.

Looks like some awesome terrian.... just curious to the size of the trails system you guys scouted??

So far found one good loop to a campsite...only about an hour of wheeling though from start to finish...maybe more depending on number of rigs...but wide open campsite area.

Then a continuation and such leads to a whole myriad of trails...one good one that was covered with downed trees and some others with severe off camber and mix of dirt and rock strewn trails. We have more exploring to conduct but if it goes like we think then not any reason we could not have one or two good loops that would take all day to get 10 vehicles through...and then an offshoot for those a bit more hard core that are not scared of a few scratches or dings...LOL

Well that sounds very exciting and promising! to you guys for going out and finding some new places to wheel.... it is a nice change of pace to actually be gaining wheeling access instead of lossing it as has been the trend lately

We just want to take every precaution to ensure these do not get closed either....plus give a little of something for everyone from mild to wild....all in a beautiful setting with a great camping location.

Thanks for the encouragement...

Ratfinks.
If I hadn't had to work last Saturday anyway I would be planning ways to hurt you for not telling me about this.

Just a "few" scratches is an under statement...I have lots of sctatches on both sides of the 62.
I'm not complaining, I had a great time, Just want everyone to know that this is not a paint friendly place.

We will do a bigger invite when we go back.

um correction...that's "without pants"

I saved the sign to put on Bonnie when I'm wearing a kilt.
Color matches pretty good too. I did thank you didn't I Brock?
