oh good gravey...30 aint bad, but a good excuse to tell Jen you NEED new tires, you can put visqueen or paper over the tires while you paint....(reference my thread)

One step forward, two steps back
Well I got the oil changed out to 20w50 and it seemed to help with the smoking. I think it was really bad the other night at the meeting because it was starting to get low, but I bet nobody got a mosquito bite.
The past couple of days I noticed the starter going out. When I turned the key nothing would happen, or I would hear a click, or it would start. No rhyme or reason. I had the battery tested today and they said it was fine, just needed to be charged a bit (probably from trying to turnover the bad starter). After doing some searching on mud it looks like I will be changing it out for a GR starter out of a 60 series to allow for easier starts. It bolts up the same, but wires a bit different. We will see if I can figure it out.
Also, this morning I noticed a puddle of antifreeze underneath the radiator. This was odd, because it never leaked any fluids. After much searching I found a pin size hole in the bottom of the radiator. I finally got it drained and took it out. I am planning on replacing it instead of trying to get it patched. I figure the 30 year old radiator probably had some issues that led to it cracking. There goes a chunk of my tire budget. It looks like I will be rolling on 4 spares for a bit longer.
I guess it thought I was getting bored and wanted to give me a few projects.

I put the Napa 60 starter on mine and haven't had any issues.

I got in the new radiator, hoses, and starter. Now if only I had a day off to put them in. I went ahead and got new hoses to go with the radiator to prevent future issues. The new top curved hose has a metal spring inside it. I assume I leave it in to help hold the shape. My old one didn't have that.
Are there any other projects( like belts) I should tackle while I have the radiator out?

I really like the pre-formed hoses. Those springs help keep the non-formed hoses from kinking.
Belts are cheap but they are way oversized on Cruisers and rarely break.

You could probably find a good 2F here on Mud for around $500. People doing swaps are letting them go cheap.

Big job there. Even with the kit. When you feel ready to take on such a task, let is know. Do some research on it to make sure that's what you want to do. You need to attend some more wrenching sessions
