That is too damn cool. I only wish you didn't paint it black :)

You know...... I was thinking that after I sprayed it. Lol. It kinda mutes all the detail. I was gonna do like a gun metal gray to match my steel wheels. But then I would have had to paint those over too. My neighbor suggested clear coat. He said why hide all the work. I just wanted it to look finished. It looks awesome in person and looks like a different truck. I may get bored and respray it later. But for now I'm happy. You truck is awesome by the way, nice work! The front reminds me of my last Tacoma.

Very nice build and some novel solutions! I have a few technical questions as I'd like to learn from this build - I hobby weld and am also learning to smith.

Do you not see rust contamination of the stainless when you use both steel and the stainless together? How do you prevent it from being a problem?

I'd like to know more about this tool - especially the bit -

Thanks
Thanks for the positive words. And transitional welding is very common practice in a lot of industries (except bumper building lol) you just need to use the correct filler rod. As far as the tool used to drill the large holes on the bottom of the bumper. It is a mag drill. It has an electromagnetic base and uses bits called rotabroach cutters. Cuts real clean holes. Here's what the bits look like.

Sweet bumper. Do you have a solidworks file for that which you'd be willing to pass out?

Thanks and Due to all the interest, positive feedback and pm's I've received on this bumper from all over (as far Australia) I decided as of yesterday I will be selling these. So sorry but at this time won't be passing along the plans.
And thanks again everyone for all the great words.

I'm patiently waiting for a rear bumper...

Fantastic work the welding is simple amazing...very clean work with great imagination. Keep am coming. I was looking at the fj 60 but now I want the 80 series. :)

This has to be one of the best looking bars I have seen. It's obvious that a t of thought went into the design and requirements of the bar.

Look forward to seeing what your roof rack looks like.

Lol. So am I... Mine is half falling off and looks like shat compared to the front now. But I have a vision of what I want the roof rack to be and can't even think of the rear bumper yet. That's going to take a lot more work to come up with something that compliments the front and take more time than the rack will. I do need to buy a square die set for my bender first though.
Oh and the 17-4 stainless rod stock showed up today for the recovery pins. So I got to knock those out next to finish off the front.

Thanks you! I'll tell you between the two, 60 and 80. Depending on where you live and your family status. I'm married with a 2yr old and one on the way. The 80 is the better all around. But I've said this before. The 60 series just evokes an emotion and feeling you will never get out of the 80 series. I get excited just looking at my 60 (Ingrid ) even though I hardly drive it. It's just a timeless classic. Sadly my 60 might have to go up for sale. But not till she's painted. With a growing family it's tough to justify two toys that I hardly have time to enjoy.

Thanks for the compliments Jim ! That is Much appreciated!

I also ordered a pair of these yesterday. I may use these on the front bumper going forward instead of the pockets. Or keep one pocket and mount one of these as well. It's a double swivel shackle. There really nice pieces made in Germany.

I'll see when they show up. This is what they look like.

Great Bumper! I am subscribing to see what comes next. Something amazing about your welds!
Thank you and I really do appreciate the responses. It makes the late nights with the wife asking " you coming in soon " worth it. As far as the welds go thanks guys. The mig welds were done on my new miller 252. No dial in time behind that machine. I literally turned it on and went at the bumper. They will get much better when I get the settings down. You should see the beads I throw down at work with a miller 350P. Those would be worthy of all the welding comments. Maybe ill post a couple pics. Not to show off, but show work quality. But I don't wanna be "that" guy. Lol
Seriously though thank you. There are a lot of talented people on this site and it's nice to be part of it.

What are these for?

Also, I need to make a nicer rack for my rig (have a ATV ramp rack right now). When you do yours I'll be following your fab work & will probably replicate it for myself seeing as you know what you're doing & I don't.

I ordered some Rud VLBG 5t lifting eyes for my bumper on EBay, I think I bought all five for $200.00.

Those are swivel shackles that I'm thinking of using for the front bumper recovery points going forward. I like the multi function of the pockets currently on my bumper but they add a fair amount of extra labor time. I'm trying to decide on running a swivel shackle on one side and the pocket on the other, or no pockets and two swivel shackles. Another thing about the 7/8 pin holes associated with the pocket recovery points is I'm noticing the paint is chipping in the holes. And that would be a start point for rust. So again swivel shackles would alleviate that concern. Or I could over size the holes and press in bronze oilite bushings which might help with the rust. But then that adds more and I've noticed in the past if those bushings aren't captured they could fall out.
The swivel shackles should come in around Tuesday. I'll post up pics so you can see what I'm thinking.
And someone asked if a standard shackle would fit in the pocket. It does.

As far as the rack goes I should be starting soon. I gotta order a square die set for my bender.
