I hope when you go to production with these you'll offer your recovery pockets as an option! I need something to match your front bumper on my rig!

That looks familiar! The pockets are tough with the swing outs.... I'm still looking at that. They could be done on a bumper without swing outs.. or on one with only one swing out. Or the another version were they would be perfect would be on a bumper with no swing outs and an undermount winch. That would be really nice..Im thinking about that now on mine.

It should look familiar! haha. I love the front bumper, and I'm happy with my decision to paint it graphite pearl. On the rear I will want the remove-able swing outs more than pockets if they are competing. I can see how doing both would be problematic.

May or may not be possible with the swingouts or desired with the use of the box beam, but a slight forward angle to the corners of the vertical rear face always looks nice.

I agree with sbman, you really need to incorporate your "trademark" style pockets. Its what really makes your front bumper so unique! What about rotating the pockets 90* and including a recess to the side that gives clearance for pin install/removal? So the pin would install horizontally rather than vertically. It would take up more real estate on the back plate tho.

BTW I still plan on putting up a review of the bumper you made me, Im just having a hard time finding a reputable AC shop to do the modifications to the AC lines for the drier relocation! Im still getting compliments on the bumper weekly!

My drier 'modification' was to just bend it up into the wing very carefully. Works fine. My A/C shop that sold me all the A/C components said it wouldn't be an issue as long as the lines don't crack.

Ive been looking at this...im not 100% set in on it yet. but waiting until the swing arms come together to see what it looks like and then see what I can do..

Just figured out how to put the pockets in the back face of the bumper. just invert the pin so it drops out the bottom and sink it in to the tube.they won't hang below because their shorter than the tube. I can reinforce the back of the tube behind the pockets to make up for the material loss. Just thinking out loud. I'll have to look into it more. But now seems possible.

What do you guys think?

Looks good but....did you cap the ends that face the wheel wells? Are the corners buffed up on the inside so when a spare tire is added the bumper will not flex on corrugations and the like? What are the square bits of tube outboard of the recovery points for?

Cheers

She's still a work in progress and all ends will be capped and finished. The corners might change.Sorry but Not sure what you mean about the spare ? The square pieces are just showing possible placement of recessed lights. If you look on my vender thread in armor you can see the pods with lights in them.they were from another project idea. But there probably going inboard some. Depending on if I do the recovery pockets and i also need room for the hawse.
Thanks
Also I'd love to see some old pics of your pinz.

Typo "buffed" beefed up... yes they will be reinforced and fit for tire carrying duties.

Thanks for the detailed reply Rich. I was referring to a lot of bumpers I have seen flexing at the corners when a 35" or larger spare is added. A good test for me is to smack the spare tire with my hand, if it is solid and doesn't shake I am happy. Very few bumpers I have seen are capable of this. My last 80 bumper the whole thing would flex and twist when I did this but it was worst at the outside corners.

I have tons of pics of the old Pinz on facebbok. Pm me for a link or I can attach them to a pm.

Cheers

I want to hear what your ideas ar about the removable mud flaps.

My truck came to me with the factory ones gone. And their nice to have here in the northeast during the winters. And some places require them. So I want to spec out some material for flaps and make them removable. It's nice to be able to remove them when your heading into the woods before mother nature decides to take them off. I could use softer material but would prefer something a little stiffer. For mine I actually have some old flaps off a mini truck that have Toyota embossed on them .gonna see how they fit up

I do like that and looked at doing it but wasnt sure what type of swingout design i was going to use yet and didnt know how much space i was going to need. This is still a work in progress and anything could change . Thanks for your input. Im going to start the swingouts tomorrow providing the double shear hinges come in. Still deciding on a latch set up.

The double shear mounts came in. Im happy with how they look. Nice and beefy. And the formed bracket is 5/16", all the others i found were made from 1/4". The internal parts are stainless. And the bearings are off the shelf. As well as the seals. These should work out nicely. Now i need to figure out these outer corners as i dont like how they transition to the swing out pivots. But first i gotta change the starter in my 4runner cause that went. Fun fun. Still cant find a latch system i like. May go bear claw rotary style slam latch ... not sure.
