The compressor went bad on my 96, and the compressor, clutch, dryer, expansion valve and evaporator were replaced, and the A/C still does not blow cold. When I am on a red light it blows really weak, now when I drive it does blow cold but not as cold as it should.

The temperature on the rig reads at half with the stock gauge and the fan clutch works since it has drag.

Would I have to replace the condenser? Could the radiator be clogged?

Anything that I am missing here????

I am in South Florida and A/C is a must here......

Thanks

PS: I did clean with a pressure cleaner the radiator and condenser after mudding and wheeling.

Yep the AC system in these trucks in marginal at best down here in good old Florida. It seems like you have checked all the usual suspects. First I would take the truck to a trusted mechanic and have them check your pressures. It should read about 35-45 on the low side and 225 or so on the high side. If the high side reads more you might need to mod your fan clutch, a new condenser, or ??? Also you can check out the heater valve to see if it is cracked open. Do a search to see how to fix it. There have been a few posts on such issues. Good luck!

^ I was searching for the right part/term, yes check this. While we don't get nearly humid as FL, we get plenty of 95-105* days. My 80 blows ice cold on the warmest of days.

i thought when you had your tx valve replaced you would of hod your evaporator core cleaned out. you could try spraying some water over your condensor to see if that improves the cooling. does yours have an extra thermo fan fitted to the condensor.is it working. my a.c was similar to yours fitted new reciever dryer and tx valve regased and nice and chilly now. does it have the correct amount of gas. is it cycling does the a/c clutch cut in and out. is your new compressor still working is it freezing up.

The clutch works fine and it cicles perfect. pressure is no issue.

It seems to be a cooling issuem and by that I mean like a fan, radiator, etc since it cools better when driving.

In the mornings its pretty cold just like at night. Its kinda weak during the middle of the day and when on a red light or trafffic.

Tech mentioned a electric fan instead of replacing the condenser, but I would like it to work the proper way as it should.

Also I have been thinking about the radiator too.... do any of you know where I could get beefed up radiator instead of a OEM for better cooling?

Thanks

Check the valve under the hood that the temperature gauge moves. The cable may need to adjust to shut off the hot water when on cold. If this lowers your temp a lot, as it did for me, problem may be very basic. It is a white valve, dead center of the hood along the firewall.

Try adding a pusher fan in front of the condenser. I installed one on my FZJ80 and it has made a huge difference when stopped in traffic or driving slowly.

here in australia the wiring is there to connect a thermo fan to and i think you just need to fit a relay into the fuse box. i think the thermo fan was standard here on the sahara model as they have a front and rear a/c unit as it need the thermo to help keep the condensor temps down. i think it sounds as if your a/c is working fine. from memory mine does similar to what you are saying that when in traffic there is not enough air flow over the condensor. like i said before get in your cabin a/c on car at operating temp and you will feel it is not as cold as you would like now get someone to put a garden hose and spray the condensor and see if it gets colder. if it does then you will you could fit a thermo fan to help lower you condensor temps

What fan clutch is on your rig? Some of them are notoriously weak, causing the problem you are explaining. Did it work better before the work? 134 can be picky about charge amount, slightly over or under charge will reduce performance, this is especially important in hot conditions.

adjust the heater cable....the dealer adjusted it for free last time i had it in and it blows much colder now..

I will check on these things today, enjoying the "beautiful" labor day weekend.

Will let you all know.

Thanks and I hope I get it taken care of.
