A/C install after a 350 swap

Well its dang hot here in Oregon (believe it or not) and having a/c would be very nice. After the V8 swap into the cruiser it was left without the a/c unit. What are your thoughts on an a/c unit? Look for chevy or try to adapt a toyota version? I have the chevy a/c pump...

I'd adapt the Chevy A/C pump to the Toyota system if you still have it... Might take a custom hose or two but I doubt it would be THAT difficult.

Use the Chevy one. It will be easier to make hoses than to find pulleys of the right offset for the Toyota compressor on a Chevy engine.

I plan on a similar set up.

PO of mine had a chevy compressor hooked to the toyota system and said it worked great.

The new engine I installed had a different compressor so I need to pick up the new hose assembly and I'll probably convert to r134a at that time.

I'm going to do a write up, but it'll probably be mid June or early July before I have time/funds to complete the project.

If you get it going before then, please post pics and info... I'd appreciate your trial and error.

My V8J60 has AC I used the chevy compressor and had two hoeses made. It works great! the only real expense was the freon (r12) I also put on a new reciever dryer.

same experience as dynosoar: used the chevy unit, had the two hoses fabricated but everything else is per toyota. works great and cools the place down nice.

In my 40 I use a Chevy compressor and on my 60 I used the Toyota compressor. Both work great here in AZ on R12. I would go with what ever is cheaper for you.

Mine uses the GM compressor & receiver/drier with the Toyota condensor. There are 2 relays in the engine bay to control it from the FJ controls. I have the wiring diagram (don't know if it's accurate, though) & I could take pix of that & the engine bay if I could figure out how to post 'em.

On mine we fabbed a bracket off the drivers side and ran all the Toyota stuff. Worked great and the only expense was lengthening the hoses and recharging the system.
