it is in the front of the carb (toward the grill).

iT's on the driver's fender. it has two vacuum hoses going into it, and an electrical plug going into it. I just replaced min. they are no longer made for the older Land Cruisers. so just get one made for a Camry. I did and it works great.

Mine works but it cycles. Revs the engine to 2k then goes back to idle and revs to 2k, etc, etc. I guess I can adjust the level to which it revs the engine to but it is going back and forth - is that a sign of a faulty unit or is there a problem somewhere else?

The unit is probably not faulty, but the idle up screw is incorrectly set. Back the screw out to reduce the high rpm and it should stop cycling.

I think you are mistaken. no offense. don't want to start anyting with you. But the idle up I bought from Toyota looks completely different from that. what makes you believe that the photo is the AC idle up solenoid?

The picture is of the vacuum diaphragm that increases the idle speed. IIRC, there is also a vacuum switch mounted on the side wall of the engine compartment--follow the vacuum line connected to the diaphragm.

2mbb - Yeah - sounds about right since I was messing with all the darn screws today. Thanks man!

picture shows the vacuum assist idle up as shown on a previous picture this is for idle up at low speeds or stationary.I think your screw needs setting correctly as mentioned previously. There is also another sensor coming from the coil/tack to the amplifier box to control the compressor at highway speeds.cheers:beer:  Boy o' boy you have got some hoses  on there Stanley.

no biggie, the photo shows the a/c idle up adjustment screw and the a/c idle up vacum thing-a-majigger. There is more to it like you stated, but usually when someone messes with a/c idle adjustments its the screw at the base that is used.

this ac idle up sounds as though it might be my problem. My ac is diabled..no belt. can I disconnect a vac line or sensor to totaly disable it.
Symptoms are intermitant surging at idle when cold. but its not consistent. Had a tune up last week. plugs, wires, cap etc. filters, timeing. Initialy the problem got worse. ran carb cleaner in the gas for a couple of days and its better but it still surges a little when cold.

85 fj60, really clean with 182k.

well try the idle up solenoid. its sitting on the drivers fender. it has two hoses coming from the Carb area to it, plus an electrical connection coming to it.

just buy toyota part number 88690-32280 (I also see another number A2615C1)

I think it cost around $30. its for a Camry, but it works great in my FJ60 and lookks almost exactly the same. no modification required. takes just 1 minute to swap out.

if your your RPM's are bouncing up and down when the AC is on, the cure is to adjust the AC idle up SCREW........nothing else is wrong. just run the motor with the AC on, adjust(I can't recall which way) screw untill the idle is steady(and about 200RPM"s above normal idle) and your done.

for the most part the AC selnoids do not fail.

Follow the arm that comes out of the AC idle up solenoid (the part that is pictured above with the red arrows from Stanley). That arm is connected to the mechanism that has a screw on it to adjust the idle speed when the AC is running...

I just looked at my AC idle up solenoid and there is no adjustment on it at all. We are talking about the AC idle up solenoid, correct? I suppose there is another idle up solenoid not associated with the AC.

chris: we're getting the AC Idle Up SOLENOID confused with the AC Idle Up DIAPHRAGM. The screw that adjusts the idle speed when the ac is on is located under the diaphragm, which is mounted to the front of the carburetor. The solenoid, which is an electrically actuated vacuum switch, doesn't have an adjustment. Hope that helps.
