Ok..
First off.. Hello!
I am long term Jeeper/Subie hound. I also have a KTM 950 Adventure addiction that has lead me to believe that if the wisdom of the proper forum can't answer your questions.. Nobody can.

So,

A local flea market carlot dude wont flex on $6800.
It has:
an OLD coil over conversion.
Light rust surface rust on under carriage and a few bubble on the rear hatch (Pearl in color)
Check engine light due to bank 1 O2 sensor
Almost the baldest tires I have ever seen.
All the accouterments seem to function (no finicky air bags)
Carfax is acceptable. Body is straight. Passenger running board is not perfect. Oddly... No spare?

As this will be my first 100 series, and I am SUPER stoked.

Also, the tank label says Premium Fuel Only. I have noticed a lot of guys on here stating they run low octane.. What gives?

Thanks in advance!
T

I don't know enough about different suspension types, but at least you don't need to worry about AHC. Not knowing the miles that is near the bottom for the 100 series price wise. I saw a handful last autumn that sound similar to this, but 2000 or 2001 around 155K miles and people wouldn't go below $10K. They always played the these are rare song.

Thanks for the quick responses!

I'm in Western North Carolina a very popular beer city named Asheville. It has 190k on it. Seems to have been used as a single seater. The little Carfax records there are show it is a NC registered car its entire life... I think it probably wintered north a few times. As I am originally from the Midwest the rust on this thing is not a big deal and almost of no concern to me. I will continue to live in the salt free parts of the US until I die.

I figure a timing belt is in order ASAP. Im Ok with that too.
The seller is definitely singing the "rare song" line. And I know he is right.
Ill probably tell him Ill bring him his blood money on Sat. :)

Love Asheville ;) The coil over conversion probably ain't good - if it's the same cheap system that a couple of others here have purchased on low price LXs then you may need to replace things to be safe. Background: When the AHC gave up some took the cheap and cheerful approach and installed crappy coil overs without replacing the torsion bars (if the fitted ones are 25mm then they are original AHC bars and are underrated compared to traditional LC torsion bars) and as a consequence there are guys here that experienced inadvertent slip control wheel braking, bad handling and other undesirable, dangerous stuff. Measure the torsion bars and if they are 25mm diameter they need to be replaced with LC or aftermarket. LC standard torsion bars are approx 28mm.

I'll measure em.. I doubt ill drive this thing to hard or much as hard driving sticks with the moto or the WRX.
I'm gonna go for it and replace as necessary. I like to turn wrenches and I guess Im gonna need some air tools! So far I'm in on this :worms:!!

Update... I bought it.. For asking price.. And really like it.. Rides like a dream compared to my STI sprung WRX!

Check here: And so it begins.. 99 LX!

It is morphing into a solid "what to do with a new to you 470 thread." Tons of help!
