Ive been lurking around the forum for the past year or so ever since I got this 98 lx470. The cruiser sat in my wives uncles driveway for a year due to an unknown problem. He told me if i could fix it, we could have it. An ohms test and new MAF later, the beast was back on the road. Ive had a few issues since the new ownership, fuel pump, filter, and transponder. Im right about 360k on the clock and the thing runs surprisingly well. I currently have her on jack stands replacing the rotors, pads, and wheel bearings. One thing I noticed was a few worn out bushings and a ball joint. I figure id just replaced the whole shebang, upper/lower ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rod ends, and stabilizer links/bushings. Im new to working on cruisers but I've worked on cars since my teens doing everything from heads and cam swaps to pulling differentials. I hope to learn some new things, I'm sure at the right place for it.

Welcome. You can't go wrong at that price, gives you lots of room to restore. The FSM, Owners and Maintenance schedule manuals will be invaluable as you base line it. You can save a little money on parts by buying from Toyota. Lexus parts are pricey and will come in Toyota box and have same part number.

Slee Off Road has the ball joint as well as many other parts along with some tools like: Slee - Spindle Grease Tool, a time saver when not pulling knuckle.
Cruiser Outfitters has a great price on bearing kits. Take note to follow FSM when assembling front wheel bearings, setting breakaway preload and checking snap ring gap is key to a lasting job.

Good luck and have fun.

1 upper ball joint, 1 lower, sway bar bushings, and a inner wheel bearing. As stated it has a bit of miles, but I love this rig. I've replaced everything in pairs, all the wheel bearings, bushings, ball joints. She will run beautifully.

This not a lot or atypical at all

Ill tell you what, when taking a car apart with 360k you find a lot of worn out broken parts. Ive been going on a month with this bad boy.

Nice work - love the garage pic! Count your blessings that you're working on a rust free rig - an LC in the salt belt with 360K on it would take you a lot longer than a month :)
