'97 LX 450 rocks side to side at 80+MPH???

The stock rear LX springs are softer than the LC, the shocks are much softer, they call that ride luxury! The wallowing thing is standard issue with the stock LX suspension, worse when loaded, I call it the Dramamine ride. Most have reported good results when stock LC shocks were installed (~$120 from cruiserdan). I went straight to an OME lift, problem solved.:hillbilly:

OP - Your weren't listening to Modest Mouse - Dramamine perhaps? :D

I have the same problem on my LX. My bearings and tires are fine. It's likely the combination of worn shocks with the stock springs. I get the wobble at 80 MPH and anytime I hit a dip in the highway. I am likely just going to lift it once someone on this board has a set of 2" or 3" springs for sale.

Change out the shocks and springs and the problem will go away....mine did the same thing with stock suspention.

Tell wife to slow down...80+ mph with 6 people?? thats crazy man.

X2. My LX (when I had it) would make you "sea sick" from the rocking (stock suspension, etc.) I put some Bilsteins on it and that helped a ton, then I added OME mediums all the way around and problem was solved. Drove, handled and rode much better. The stock LX suspension is way too soft.

What's wrong with doing 80 in an 80? I like the cruise control set at 82 in a 75.

Agreed. There is a 600 mile stretch of interstate between El Paso and San Antonio with posted speed limit of 80 MPH. I've got no problem doing the speed limit (or a tad over) if the conditions are right.

DUDE you missed the point!!! I was talking about his 80 not yours man. Going 80+ with six passengers, landcruiser rocking back and fourth means slow down. You do the math.

I know the spring rates on an LX are softer than the Toyotas. Sounds like to much weight and too fast.

Also chk your tire pressures. Ive seen this happen if one of the tires is considerably lower than the others.....my .02

Agree with Woodsman 44, if you are "rocking back and fourth ", 6 passengers and doing 80 there must be an issue here. Slow down before the issue becomes an accident. I once drove across Nevada doing in excess of 100 with many miles above 120. No problem, car was set up for high speed and I had no "rocking back and fourth" at anytime. Its all about common sense and equipment.

If you keep driving it that way, you'll end up pinching a hole in the leather seats with your buttcheeks! lol
I helped my LX by getting rid of the Michelins. Michelin sidewalls are too soft for this suspension.
I replaced the steering stabilizer with OME. That made the steering feel more "in control" at highway speeds.
I replaced the shocks. ( this was about 80,000 miles ago) I used some cheap Gabriels from Autozone, but I think they are wearing out now, as I am noticing a little more sway and the front tires have been cupping. I am going to order toyota LC shocks from Cruiserdan today, to get this thing ready for summer roadtrips.
