I have tried searching the forum, most problems, are close, but not the same:(
The cruiser starts and dies after 10 seconds.
Starts every time, like normal, without a problem.
If i rev the engine, i can keep it running. The accelerator must constantly be pressed and released, can not just keep it pressed at high RPM's, or it will die.
I can start it, and keep it running with starting fluid, so that tells me it's not the spark.
I had previously assembled, and disassembled the front end, to replace the radiator. But I checked the wiring, and it seems to be connected.

Can someone suggest how to diagnose the problem?
I would like to check and see, if the power to the fuel pump shuts off, just before it dies, do I need to get directly to the fuel pump unit?

Could it be the ecu, throttle positioning sensor, fuel pump relay?
How do i check these things?
Thanks in advance
Vadim

Sounds like an obvious electronic issue. Either get a diagnostic person to it or it to them. Only other solution is replacing electronic items one at a time with no refunds. A tow to the nearest Toy dealer and diagnostic charge is cheaper. If you are a good salesman you can get a service advisor to put a mechanic on the phone. Possibly send a PM to cruiserDan as well.

When did this start happining? How much fuel do you have in your vehicle when it started acting up? how much fuel do you have in it now?
Dont go crazy with the starting fluid, you can damage your engine it you run it on that for too long..
I donno if it would be an electrical, because you say that if you keep reving it up, It will stay running. also, if you use starting fluid, It will stay Running... being that your throttle cable is mechanical, and not electric.. that kinda rulls out an electric problem.. At least I would think.. Though,,, just because you get spark, doesent mean your getting fuel..

When you turn your key over, do you hear the electric pump turn on? it should run for just a few seconds. You might try pulling an injector and crank it over.. to see if you are getting fuel through that injector. (though you say that it runs is you keep pumping the pettle)

what color is your exhaust? black, white, blue, none... might check your air cleaner also.

Whens the last time you changed out your fuel filter (s) they might be clogged.

Whats your rpm when idling? normal, high , low, jumpy? does it change or stay the same right before it dies?

just fixed it. Started checking the fuel pump relay outputs, on one of the wires the relay made a buzzing noise, and after that, the truck runs good.
I read somewhere on this forum that the fuel pump has a high and a low voltage supply, and I think that one is for idling and the other is for starting and high RPM's( I think).
Maybe the relay was stuck, on one voltage supply, thus only started and ran on high rpm's.
Just my theory. Food for thought, as they say:D
Thanks for the replies, guys.

Hey Dan,

That's usually considered a last resort around here.

Cheers,

Vadim,

You might want to get (OK, I strongly suggest) the factory Electrical Wiring Diagram. I had a similar issue to yours, and tracked it down to an intermittent open in the wiring between the relay (DS fenderwell) and the fuel pump resistor (PS fenderwell) somewhere in the dash. You didn't mention what you did to completely "fix" the problem, whether you replaced the relay, or just made a better connection, etc. etc. Anyway, you should be totally convinced that you've fixed the problem, not just that it went away for now... BTW the truck will run fine on the high voltage setting of the fuel pump.
