I finally replaced my shift indicator plate in my ‘97 LX450. It was deteriorating quickly. The original part is NLA, but a different part 35921-60110 fits pretty well. This part is for the 93-95 80’s with the early transmission.

35921-60110 fits in the bezel perfectly, but the slots for the red indicator behind it are slightly off. You can adjust the location of the whole black housing before you tighten down it’s 4 screws to mitigate this.

Installation is a little hard because you need to get access underneath the housing to install it. I’m not covering that here, I’m just sharing my experience with the part number. It’s easier to replace if you remove the shift knob. I managed to do it in 40 minutes without the shift knob, but it is a little tricky.

You might as well replace the light bulb “while you’re in there”. Bulb is 90981-11018.

On the new part the D-2-L detent marks appear to be closer together. Does the pointer align with those detent marks properly?

They are spaced differently, that’s what I was referring to as “slots”. If you are careful with the alignment when you reinstall the black housing, you can get the red indicator to show correctly on most of the slots—however it only halfway shows on D for me.

This is a compromise I’m willing to accept.

YouTube video link coming shortly with me shifting all the gears so you can see how it turned out. It’s taking a little while to upload, but I’ll post it once it does.

Followed OPs advice and input and made this mod to my 97 FJ80. Added the Delta Red Shift Override and printed my own sticker. Added green LED while I was in there

Do you mind sharing the brand info on the green LED you put it? I tried several different brands from Amazon and it won't fit on the base. The 74 miniature incandescent bulb fits just fine. LED's are far more brighter.

I actually have that same shift indicator plate laying right here on my desk. I saw that it didn't line up with the original and didn't both to even try and install it. Can you provide more detail on the slots underneath?

it’s not really slots technically, but there is play in the 4 screw holes that attach the black housing (thing that shift plate indicator goes in) to the car. You can shift the black housing forward or rearward before you tighten the screws all the way down. Results may vary, but I have at least some of the red indicator appear on every slot.

Just install it. If I told you there was a difference in the spacing, but you didn’t have the original to compare to, you would not be able to detect it once the replacement plate is installed. It works great. Any potential offset is negligible at best for the orange pin alignment.

Where’s the cheapest place to get these new shifter plates?

Thanks for the report! With several installed, I think it’s safe to say that the trail has been blazed and this is a good way to fix a worn out shift indicator plate.

I got mine for $11 from Amayama, but it was part of a large order of parts. Buying it alone with the shipping cost and wait is not worth it. Buy local if you need it asap

There's 4 screws holding in the black bezel. Has some wiggle room- here's how I adjusted mine to show the red indicator on drive.

Is your faux wood trim OG or aftermarket? If aftermarket, where did you get it? I recently bought a set, but it's not as nice as what I see in these photos.
