94 LandCruiser - Choking and Sputtering on Wet Days

94, Gas. I live in a pretty dry clime. However I've noticed on days where it's very rainy, wet, and/or humid that my vehicle chokes and sputters upon starting and it sounds like it's not getting fuel. And a couple times it's started, ran horribly for a couple seconds, and then died. I try to restart - nothing. Wait a while, it fires up, sounds like sh*t again, chokes through it, and then gets going.

I replaced the K&N filter with a new one. I know I can clean it. When I went to buy a cleaning kit they had replacements on sale and my quick value-of-my-time calculation won out. This didn't seem to have any effect.

Any advice?

Water getting into the electrics? Do you park outside or is this a pure humidity thing - I'd buy it that water could be getting into something if you are parking it out in the rain, just a possibility.

water on the O2 sensor wiring/sensor plugs? just a thought. My brother had an issue after a water crossing.

I've had this happen once during a rain, never during any water crossings. It could be water getting into some part of the electronics. But another thing to check could be as simple as the gap in your spark plugs and if I remember correctly when it happened to me I checked everything and couldn't find water intrusion anywhere. So for $h*t$ and giggles I checked the plugs and the gaps was way off, done by the PO. Once I fixed it the problem hasn't shown up again.

I almost never park inside. That's for the wife. Plus the rack is never clear enough.

Is your distributor well sealed from the elements. Pop your distributor cap off and dry it out with a hair dryer. Make sure your seal is good.

x2 on water on 02 sensor wires. mine did same thing. duct tape cured that.

On a wet night open the hood and see if there is any arcing or sparking. Once i had the hood up in the dark on my wifes jeep.. The plug wires were so old it looked like the engine was a fire fly hive.

Next time it does this open the hood and spray WD-40 over your dizzy and plug wires, if she clears up get a new set.

Or test the theory by spraying the wires and dizzy with a garden hose...go easy to start. Then buy a new set.

I was also going to say this sounds like water getting through the distributor cap seal.
