-or any other pre-maintenance usuals associated with top end work/headgasket work.

Not mine, but locked with a fresh motor and relatively low miles on chassis. I have seen em go for more on mud.

Plates indicate not an original California car (explains the rust). Also, could there have been front end damage--look at the alignment of the hood and the DS headlight in 1st photo?

The hood was off the vehicle, hence the misalignment. It was an east coast vehicle originally from the carfax, no accidents. It did receive a new top end so if that's the short block it got one.
