Check the buyer beware section in the classifieds... maybe you can find some info on the seller.

@SteveJackson might have some insight on the truck.

I do not know that truck, although I know that seller. The last truck I saw him selling came straight to my place a few weeks later for $5K in work just to make it driveable. Other trucks I've seen from that seller are from Canada.

Thanks guys for the input, that helps. I'll check buyer beware. I did just look up some recent Ebay sales, trucks look like the undercarriage has been recently sprayed.

To bad, the listed rig looks like a good buy.

I asked for more photos and video anyway.

I contacted him on Ebay just to see what he had to say. Says it came from Edmonton from a guy named Craig who is supposedly on mud.

even if it needs some work it looks like a nice truck, i just bought one otherwise id be all over this. $3000 for longfields though lol

These guys have been importing Landcruisers from Canada for the past few years. Just some flippers really. Be cautious since most of the trucks they have lack service records. The trucks tend to have more rust than usual since they've been up north. I've seen a few of the trucks they have covered in under carriage spray which means they were hiding rust.

To say "make it driveable" is a bit of an overstatement. I drove it to your shop from Chicago, and prior to that drove it 3,000 miles. It had the usual suspected wear items (Fuel Injection Pump, worn injectors, and some turbo shaftplay) all which is common with higher mileage HDJs. Aside from that the truck had no maintenance history that I could trace, thus bringing it to a reputable shop like yours to be serviced.

I guess it's one way to call a customer out.

Adil? I'm not calling you out in any way. I was trying to anonymously relay your experience with this seller and the types of trucks they offer.

Thanks Steve

To anyone who is looking to buy from them just thread lightly and do some due diligence. These guys are buying them for $8K-9K CDN and making money on them with 2 parts, on the exchange rate and the truck itself.

I’m from Canada. A decent Hdj81 goes for around 12-17K CDN here. If you don’t expect to have to do some work you are a fool. People here that have been through them and brought the reliability up and done some well placed upgrades will sell them for 20-35K. It just depends on what you want.

I think more people are becoming aware of the sellers practices, its a small community of buyers looking for these rigs. They've not been able to sell either of the trucks they have listed at under $15k US, that says something. A truck at that price would be gone from a reputable seller in days considering year, apparent condition, listed service, etc...

The truck I saw, with the hidden rust, I would say the guy over paid by probably $7-9k and that's being optimistic. Others don't want to end up in the same place, at least I don't and I'm sure I'm not alone.
