I found a source for a New Denso 2.2KW starter through a friend of a friend for a reasonable price (relative to what a new one cost through proper channels), my 96 LX has a parts store reman starter installed by PO that gives me the willies, although it shows no signs of trouble I have had much trouble with parts store reman starters in the past, I think there was some shotgunning going on as the alt starter and battery were all replaced with non Toyota parts and look about the same age

the 2.2 was spec'd only for the 93, it has the same 1fz as mine but the 442 transmission , does that make a difference? the 2.0 is suppose to fit them all (or at least 93-97?) so I would assume the 2.2 will fit all as well? but you know what assume does

Raven, I believe that Toyota does not sell "new" ones any longer and they are strictly remanufactured.

I had read that in a couple of the starter threads, but this is not a Toyota starter but Denso, who I believe was the original starter supplier?

The Toyota/Denso 2.2 KW will fit any 1FZ regardless of year model.

A major score for you to find a new 2.2.. :D

Thanks dan :)

Raven,

Before you install it, copy the S/N, model number and part numbers off the body of the starter and put it in your glovebox or maintenance file. That way when you need starter contacts some day you won't be hunting high and low for the proper ones. Normally, giving the Toyota VIN number gets you the right contacts but that won't be the case for you...
