91 FJ80 anyone know what this part is called and why is it heating up so much (1 Viewer)

I replaced this part before but i can't remember what is called. Why would it be heating up so much?

EGR valve?

That is a check valve for the smog pump. There is supposed to be a hose from the check valve by the silencer for the smog pump that runs to that check valve mounted on the hard pipe.

You can plug the air injection lines and get rid of it. Are the air injection ports supposed to also have check valves in them, or can exhaust free flow back through the system?
