WOW 48% is a bloody lot of air to stop.

Mines on slightly bigger tyres (265/75 16's so not that much bigger) with no chip/dtronic/etc. Haven't been in what I'd call real hot places, but I've worked it pretty hard at times

I haven't really had to clean it toooo much in the past (the odd bug or three) so maybe it's just wank factor more than anything else.

If it's blocking that much air, then I guess it's blocking it from the intercooler too (TD).

I'm guna take it off and see what happens.

I'get back to yus all soon.

Thanks for the info Darren

Well I've had the insect (bug) screen off for a few weeks now and here is a bit of a run down

Fuel economy has improved very slightly - was 12.7 l per 100 kms ( 18.5 MPG) now is 12 l per 100 kms (19.6 MPG) - not really sure of the math on this one (l/km to MPG) as I used a online conversion tool, it seams wrong but it gives you an idea- but this drop in fuel use may be because of other factors so I'm not 100% convinced on that one.

Coolant temps and underbonnet temps are lower than before the removal, and I've been using the air con a lot more in the last couple of weeks. Underbonnet temps are by the tried and trusted 'heat on your face' method so thay aren't really scientific, but the temps seam to be lower after a long run

Roll on oomph seams to be a bit better, not from a standstill but the 'want to keep going' thing (if that makes sence to all) so perhaps there is a little improvement there.

The squashed bug on the grill factor hasn't increased at all.

So I think I'll leave it off for a while longer and if I think I'll need it for a trip (driving through a paddock with wheat in it for example - LOL) I'll throw it in the back till I need it.

:)

man...how can you wheel these things?! i dropped in from the 40 section to check it out here but...i dont know how you could wheel those rigs, their good looken rigs! i dont think i could wheel somthen like that cause if i put it on its side i would want to hurt myself!

I did the sums myself (hope the math is good) and my figures are

12.7 l per 100 kms = 22.4 mpg

12l per 100 kms = 23.7 mpg

which looks a bit better and I'm pretty sure is a lot closer than the old figures.
So an improvement of a bit more than 1 mpg. If that improvment is dowm to the insect (bug) screen, then I'm leavin it off till I really need it (if I ever do)

:)
