I'm brand new to the forum and to the world of LC's. I used to own a 1984 Jeep CJ7 but soon fell in lust with the LC. I'm looking for some advice to get started and hope some experienced folks can share a word or two.

Where should I look for my future LC? I've done research on ebay, CL, and Auto Trader. I like the 89 and 90 models for the EFI, auto tranny, and shoulder seat belts in the rear.

What can I expect to pay for a turnkey LC with little/no rust and no major mechanical issues? I will use my LC as a daily driver to/from work and for driving on sand at the beach. I guess radical mods aren't priority for me right now.

I'm going to be seriously in the market in the next 6 months. I have to sell my 97 Honda Odyssey first.

Thanks for reading and hope I to get to know you all through this and future posts. (I get online in the evenings so I check for messages then).

Jim

I would say that an 89 or 90 FJ62 will serve your purposes well. Expect to spend about $8k on a good clean one with around 150k and no rust.

I'd look in California or Texas and find a nice rust-free, unmolested one for a decent price (<$4000). Might take a while to find the perfect one at a perfect price, but there's no reason to rush in. We all pay too much for the first one we get.

Is the +/- $4,000 price out there for rust free, solid 62's? I've seen several in a higher dollar range but nothing around $4k. I guess my options are a bit limited in FL. There is a local fella selling a '89 62, stock, rust free, 175k miles, for $7k. I'm thinking of jumping on it as I can get it without having to arrange shipping. Does that sound like a reasonable deal?

I have a '89 FJ62- It is in great shape. I just had the transmission rebuilt, new brackes and roters, and a new fuel pump put in. I live in Tennessee. It has no rust and a front grill guard and sits on 31 X 10.50's. Runs like a champ and only has 139,000 miles on it. If you buy one for around $4000, you will end up spending $6000 more getting it to look like you want. E-mail me at rayhayles@gmail.com if you are interested.

I e-mailed the guy with the 62 in Orlando yesterday asking if I could come look at it. Said he had a commitment already -- that you?

It wasn't me - wish it was as it was a pristine truck. Some pilot from SC flew in and bought it before I could buy it.
