I’m sure I’ll get opposition, but I’ve found no noticeable difference between cheap ol Monroe’s and expensive shocks when city driving. Springs and bushings are 95% responsible for the ride in my experience

If you’re budget minded procomps have been on both my hj61s and I’m satisfied. It’s not a 80 series so what’s the point in uber expensive shocks, idk

Silver KYB shocks work well also
OME Nitocharger shocks ride STIFF on the pavement. Not recommended for a commuter cruiser - harsher ride.
The most comfortable ride I ever got (not harsh) was when riding with NO rear shocks. But it was dangerous at speed and when going over bumps - pogo stick.
For offroad washboard use, get the Nitrochargers, for everything else get some generic non performance shock

I just had the bilstein 4600 series installed on my 1990fj62 and I am not really happy . I went from original shocks that were done with a stiffer ride to a bounce ride that actually make me fill a bit nauseous.( might need time to get use to it)
Now I need to change the shocks on my 89
and wanted to check other options.

I like Doetsch 8000 series shocks. I just ordered another set for my 60. They really smoothed the ride and never fade. At a little over 40 bucks a shock they are relatively easy on the wallet.

Make sure those little pads between the leaves are in good shape, not worn out, or else the friction between leaves will also make the ride more stiff.

I second replacing the plastic pads between the leaves. My '62 rides a lot better than my '60 ever did.
Silver KYBs are inexpensive and give a good ride. With all the inter-leaf friction on a 4-leaf-spring vehicle, I argue that you don't need a lot of shock control. KYBs are still well made, but are vastly cheaper than Bilsteins.
