Went to check level in transfer case and AT fluid poured out! Now I know where all my At fluid has been going-duh!

I’ve heard something about a seal between auto trans and transfer case-im assuming this has gone bad. What is the procedure for fixing this? Level of difficulty? Special tools?

And in the mean-time is it bad to drive short distances at 25mph?

Thanks

All the old 60 series cruisers leak between the transmission and transfer case. And on most other 4WD vehicles too.

Replacing the worn oil seal is a big job. Not for the faint of heart.

You can continue driving your cruiser forever just like it is (w leaky seal) you’ve just got to keep an eye on the fluid levels regularly and adjust.
The transfer case doesn’t care if it gets some ATF mixed in with the gear oil. Gear oil is pretty cheap. Just drain & fill the transfer case every year or so depending on how fast the oil migrates out of the transmission
