For Sale is my 1988 FJ62 with lots of goodies. This is a great truck, and its in better shape that you would expect given its age. I got married, and I just don't drive it much anymore, and never get offroad. So, it needs to find a new home for someone who really appreicates it. You'all know all about these trucks. I'm the third owner, and I've had it for about 8 years. Approximately 226k miles; the odo shows 223, but the speedo broke about 2 years ago, and I'm estimating I've put about 3k miles on it since.
This truck is in great shape. Body is good overall - paint is nice and bright, the interior is better than you would believe. There are a couple of minor dents in various places where trees jumped out at me, and as you can see, the left front running light and the headlight housing need to be replaced. The headlight and running light work fine but the lens/housing needs to be replaced. Automatic tranny, of course, but I thought I should point that out.
The good:
Runs great and there are no known major mechanical issues other than mentioned below. It cranks right away, drives fine, and I did use it as a daily driver while my car was in the shop a few months ago. I've taken it to my mechanic twice, and he keeps telling me the engine and tranny are in great shape and he thinks its got alot of life left in it. (BTW, first visit was for the electrical system; second was for fuel system clean out - I told you I don't drive it as much as I need to.)
ARB bull bar
12000 lb warn winch
Lifted with OME suspension components
IPF running lamps
Prodigy trailer power braking controller
The previous owner had the head professionally rebuilt at about 185k miles.
New battery, rebuilt alternator and starter within the past year.
Interior looks like new except for some stains on the carpet in the cargo area, fabric is worn in the edge of the driver's seat where you slide out, and a bit of messiness on the center tunnel carpet where a previous owner removed something that had been glued down.
Sunroof.
Class III hitch.
The bad I want to point out:
Speedo is broken, and gas guage doesn't register above 1/4 - I suspect the sender unit is stuck. I also believe it is the speedo cable, not the unit.
4x4 vacum servo is shot. The 4 wheel drive works, but you have to re-route the vacum hoses on the unit to engage it. The replacement part is a little spendy, but there are some threads on this forum that discuss a bargain work-around.
Over-revvs when shifting into 3rd. All the gears work fine, but when the tranny shifts from 2nd to 3rd, it revs to about 2k RPM before it drops back down and moves on. (Takes about 3 seconds.) I can't feel anything, but you can hear it. I'ts done this since I bought the truck, and hasn't gotten any worse since I've owned the truck.
Rust on the left rear fender - this is basically the only rust of note on the vehicle. Its pretty common, and should be easy to repair. Other than that, its clean, especially the undercarrage.
Star crack in the windshield. I haven't taken the time to talk to one of the repair outfits to see if it is of the type that can be repaired, or if the windshield itself has to be replaced.
Truck is in Tallahassee, FL. Looking to get $4,000. I'll be happy to send any more pictures or give you any more information. Just shoot me an email at larry d harris (remove the spaces) at gmail dot com
