Hi all,

I've got an 87 JDM 4 door Hilux 2L with discs in the front and drums in the rear. When I purchased the truck it had some ugly aftermarket wheels on it and I've been trying to replace them with a set of plain steelies.

Those of you who are familiar with this solid axle rig know that the backspacing required for a wheels to fit is pretty intense. Through research I've decided to go with a late model FJ40 wheel (the type with the clips for hubcaps). I contacted cruiserparts.net who sell the oem wheels, but they specify them as being 'disc brake type'. I relayed to them that I have drums in the rear, and they told me they'd fit back there as well.

Any idea if this is correct?

They are spot on.

If you ever wanna go the alloy route I'm using 15" OEM landcruiser alloys on my 87 for now.

I'm forgetting the offset number that is stamped on the rim but it's from a solid axle landcruiser not a IFS 4runner. I've tried fitting an IFS rim and it hits the drag link in the front, no rear issues though.

Edit - if you zoom you can see the (-20) stamp on the rim and if I remember correct the IFS rims are (+10?)

Gotcha. I believe I've seen your rig on here and was considering those. But I only recognized them as the 4Runner wheels and as you've said will not fit. What solid axle land cruiser came stock with those?

You don't want any wheel that came on the IFS 86-95 truck or 4 runner on a solid axle vehicle, like those above. The backspacing on those were 4.75, which really put the center of the wheel over the calipers and do not work on a solid axle truck. The landcruisers came with a wheel backspacing of 3 3/8, I believe. It's been awhile since I did this. Since I am IFS in front I can go with either truck/4runner or landcruiser rims. I choose landcruiser rims from a 60 series. The harders part was finding a good center cap. I sandblasted them and painted them to match the color of my truck. Here's a picture...
