Need some help. When I bought the 4runner the guy said that he had the engine rebuilt with an after-market Cam. It smells like fuel a little. But here recently is has been really smelling like gas. It also takes a while to start when it is cold. I need help or a good mechanic in AZ!

Not an expert by any means, but if its hard to start when its cold but not when its warmed up, it sounds like a fuel leak down problem. If you can smell fuel then this could be your problem. You can pull the plenum and then jump from the bat to the fuel pump side of the diagostics box and watch to see if any injectors or fuel rail connections are leaking. Be sure to pull the neg battery cable before you start wrenching on it though. All this assuming its fuel injected.!

What it ended up being was the fuel damper. It is located on the fuel rail and no one but Toyota knew what one was. $109 later and about 2 minutes of labor. It also fixed the fuel smell coming from the exhaust so I know it is running better now. I am excited to see if it helps the gas mileage at all. Thanks for the help.
