Don't subject yourself to.
Will update with part numbers for the dryer that worked, but bought a JDM relocate kit in Classifieds.
Went to a local shop to have evacuated (intended to do it myself ) but the owner expressed concerns over the JDM joints ability to seal and offered to weld instead. Had them do, with intention of cutting the fittings off and welding.
Came back an hour later and they'd installed with fittings, stating the welder never returned from lunch. Haha.
Anyhow, guy said that it wouldn't be too bad a job for a competent shop ( I asked his opinion of kit) and that it could be done pretty easily, under the expense of the JDM, if the later model dryers would fit in box. ( Going to check in a few ).
Asked him how much, and he said it'd be a $150 job for just the line work, add evac and recharge to that, plus a new OE dryer. ( Dryers are $58.00)
Again, that's IF the later years fit in the battery box, otherwise the fittings couldn't be reused

Interesting. I've got 300k on all the original A/C components. No issues ever. It was evacuated and recharged once in its life when the motor was out....shoot. Ok make that twice

The JDM kit I have uses a fitting ( tech called it by name, but don't remember what it was. Says "FujiKing" (?) on side ) that compresses against a fixed center, unlike the OEs I saw come off.
I do have all the lines from my 97 OE if someone wants to mock up. One is cut , but fittings are good.
Will stick the 97 dryer in box in a second.

Only way I could see to make an OE, model specific dryer work with reusing the fittings from the 97 is to core a hole in the bottom of the battery box, but I don't know the ramifications of.
It's 1" too tall to sit below the top of the radiator.

So friggin tired of DS issues, period.
What's possible on beefing up the shaft while I figure out how not to wheel?

I've come to grips with a few realities.
First, I was originally caught somewhere between a pseudo-resto/capable wheeler and a dedicated crawler.... well as much of a crawler as the PP80 can be.
The latter is my final answer.
Second. I will be breaking things, so preparation for the inevitable is a higher priority. Still hope to maintain a resemblance to OE.
Lastly. This is the manifestation of the culmination of many personality disorders, surpassing addictive status, and I will make no further attempts to rationalize, to others, or myself, more importantly.
It is what it is, and it's too much fun to stop now.
It is addictive! I know you still maintain the OE nature, but just wait until you hear that first real crumple of body. It's liberating in a sense, but debilitative in that you'll be chasing the dragon for that feeling for the rest of your years.
Pretty, now let'sbreak them in!
