We are relatively quiet in this neck of the woods, but I noticed there are more and more 80 series owner popping up in the SoCal/Orange County area.

With that being said, thought we could start a thread and hopefully talk about our projects, share knowledge and parts.

Feel free to post/ask about anything 80 series related.

Cheers

Thanks for posting this. Anyone doing any wrench days? I noticed Beach n Toys post that they have wrench days some times. Would be helpful for new 80s owners :) Myself included. Unfortunately I only have a small garage with an HOA, so no driveway to host. Otherwise I would!

I recently installed a Moonlight snorkel and airbox kit from Australia, which made a noticeable difference in performance, but like @alphaeighteen, i've also got a small garage with an HOA so I can only do so much work on this thing at home.

This weekend I plan on removing the ACSD from the fuel pump, along with removing the injectors for inspection. I feel like this project is slowly coming to a close, but i've been saying that for a couple years now... I've got an LR3 that I daily these days and while it has been a great truck overall, I really wish I could wheel my Cruiser more often.

Shoot, that moonlight snorkel is damn sexy. When I requested a quote the shipping was nearly as much as the snorkel itself. So I bought a new fender to go snorkelless once again until the funds allow for a ML fab one.

Ya the shipping was a joke. I had saved a long time for this kit and then suddenly get slapped by crazy freight costs despite the currency exchange being in our favor.

Anyway, I just went for it anyway and glad I did. Both pieces are works of art.

Usually not a huge fan of snorkels like this, but that thing is CLEAN. Still have yet to see your truck in person man, but run into you enough. Looking good.

Would be great to connect with some of you and get to wrenching. Excited that more of us are able to connect.

Funny thought, but would anybody have any idea on re-adding flares after a de-flare and Linex?

I still have my factory flares and miss them. My LineX looks great, dont get me wrong, but I feel as if it could get peeled off. The holes for my flares are just taped over with aluminum tape underneath. The only thing I am stumped about, is getting new hardware and tabs to re-rivet into the body on the rear door area. Its actually quite the project, but I talked to LineX in orange and they said they can remove it.

Did they quote you on what it would cost to remove? Seem like it'd be one heck of a job.

Sorry, got nothing to add on reinstalling the flares. But just by the looks of it doesn't seem to difficult.

Eh, mine is peeling towards the front and ends on the bottom of the rocker, so who knows. Honestly they didnt do a great job at the edges there, so maybe it can be easily lifted up with a chisel.

There was a thread where they took a palm sander to it and took it down to the bare metal before repainting. If I come across it I'll repost it here

I think I saw that on the truck with Monstaliner over the entire body. LineX is a lot thicker and able to peel up so hoping I can do that.

Just wanted to check in, I'm an 80 owner in Mid City LA (West Adams) with a garage (sadly too low for my 80 to fit in it though) and a decent assortment of tools, so if anyone is looking to do a wrench day we could get something going. Maybe a monthly or something?

Sounds like a good plan. I'm interested!

Welcome to the Clubhouse! There are quite a few of us 80's guys in the area. Hope to see you at a club meeting! One standard item on our agenda is Parts Needed/Available.

The IH8MUD Tech Forum is a wealth of information. I just had a problem shifting out of Park all of a sudden. I had to pop the little cap near the shifter and use a screwdriver to manually release the Park pawl. As soon as I got home, I searched the forum and found the likely cause (s). One 10 amp brake light fuse later my problem was solved!

I'd love it if our club could do something like this. One of the biggest challenges is finding a suitable space for this.
