Hi All,

I am searching desperately for a 1997 80 series roof panel and cross members. I have searched for ages and all usual suspects: Amayama, Yoshi Parts, JP Car Parts, as well as calling parts shops in Australia, the Middle East and US.

Long story short, I rolled it while on an icy road in Norway last year and the roof rack bore the brunt, but it severely dented and bent the roof and the structural cross members. An insurance company probably would write it off, but we aren't claiming on the insurance. We've gone overlanding in over 50 countries in it, so it has a lot of sentimental value and we'd like to get it fixed.

I know all of these are discontinued so finding this is a huge long shot, but these are the part numbers for the roof: 63014-60020 (preferred) or 63111-60190, and cross members: 63144-60010 (QTY 2), 63143-60010 (QTY 1).

Happy to pay a finders fee to anyone who is able to help get me the above. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated and our plan of last resort is to cut the roof off a donor car, but we know it won't be as structurally sound as doing the repair properly. The vehicle is currently in the UK, so any parts will end up getting shipped there.

Have you tried the Parting Out section of the Mud Classifieds, or local salvage yards?
There are a couple of people out your way who have parted out 80 Series regularly who might could do a roof cut.

Might be time for an integrated roof top tent like a Campteq 80.

I have as well as other part out places in the UK. They'll all do a roof cut, the issue is the workshop won't guarantee any of the work (and is potentially maybe even unwilling except for a stupid amount of $) unless we use a new roof and new cross members, even if the used roof is cut to spec.

It isn't rocket science to swap a roof. I did it on a car once - putting on a used non-sunroof version to change the COG on a race car. It involved some drilling, cutting, welding, and grinding like most any other weld on body project. What sort of guarantee are you expecting?

Time to find a different body shop...

Unfortunately it's not quite up to me. It's my friend's car and the deal we make before each trip is whoever damages the car has to pay for it. (he totaled a previous land cruiser on a different trip, so we're even-ish in the damage department). So it'll be up to him whether or not he accepts whatever guarantee (or no guarantee) the workshop offers on the work.

But yes, we are looking for a different shop that seems a) more comfortable doing a roof swap, and b) willing to offer a guarantee.

More out of curiosity, since I'm not familiar with how shops like this work, but what kind of guarantee are you/he looking for?

Any street rod shop can repair the roof that is there and put it back together as well or better than it was. They don't do "collision repair" with insurance.

I have watched a shop section a roof of a car into (8) pieces, then put it all back together, heat shrink it, smooth it, and it was impossible to see any seam when they were done with it.

Get a used roof from a part-out and have a street rod shop rebuild it. No, it won't be cheap, but it will be nearly as good as new.

Hey Mike, have you had any luck locating 63143-60010?

I'm also in the search for the same part.

Thank you

Hey Rob,

Unfortunately, I have only been able to find part# 63144-60010. We are going to go the donor vehicle route and just swap the entire roof.
