Guys, I have a line for a 80 series PTO gearbox that attaches to transfer box. I was wondering if any fellow mudders looking for this. Anyone know what this might be worth? These are quite rare as I heard. Does that mean more $$$ or less demand?
Thanks,

davaa

Did a little parts searching and found three different ones for 80 series. 91/92 (which is probably the split case PTO we have seen come in to the US, I have a couple of them), 93/94 and 95-97. Not sure what a HF1A transfer case is but the full time 4WD transfer case doesn't appear to have a PTO or PTO spacer inside. While a rare part is looks like the 80 series imported to North America couldn't even use it. It is also just a piece in a puzzle. Bumper, drivelines and shift linkage all need to be figured out. My site doesn't even show anything when I click on linkage guessing because non of it is available. Even the diagram of the winch itself looks different. A package with everything included from the T case on would probably have more interest that a PTO by itself.:meh:

HF1A is a factory part time case.

HF1A is a factory part time case.

The site I'm looking at it not in English just going by the diagram for the 95 up on the full time 4WD and it doesn't show a PTO or spacer. Never owned a 80 or torn a transfer case out of one apart. Those who have would know if the PTO gear is possible. Something a person should know before buying it is if it will fit or not.:meh:

The HF1A case was the part time case used in 7Xs and 8Xs, behind the FZ/HDs, mostly.

Have seen the PTOs for the HF1A mechanical case from 7Xs, never have in an 80, only HDJ81s.

I'd think (operative) there'd be a lot in the way of the PTO shaft of a LHD 80, so maybe an RHD only option, as the pics above would substantiate, with the lever on left side.

The H150F/HF1A mechanical case from an FZJ7X is identical.

As far as I know, the H151F/HF1As of FZJ or HDJ80/81 origin all have CDL motors, different shifter linkage and orientation, but the cases are the same (short of variances to mount the different shifter/linkage orientations) and all have PTO access cover.

To retract a portion of the above, since I'm by no means an expert and this is a classified ad....

I reckon the PTO shaft could be jointed to meander its way around the LHD obstacles.

Don't want to preclude interest in this rarity by saying otherwise.

How much are we talking?

I've a pending project that this might be a completely unnecessary, novelty.......but the project itself could be described similarly, so why not a PTO winch to look pretty?

Interesting on the 80......

While rare, it isn't necessarily desirable (at least in the U.S.) as the expense to make it work would be much more a hassle than what it would be worth work wise. 80s in the U.S. are not work trucks. They are play trucks and for most of us an electric winch is plenty. Even on 40s in the U.S the PTO is not a highly desirable option except to a few whom want the ultimate Toyota package. If the complete set up costs significantly more, like double or triple, an electric winch counterpart it just doesn't make sense from a cost for use perspective.

I agree with what your saying on the 80 series. Just too many other things needed to make it work and still believe the full time 4WD transfer won't be able to to use it.

On the 40 series while some see a PTO as a novelty it was after seeing the over heating and time waiting to charge the battery on a long pull I decided I had to have a PTO. These was in the early eighties. Only reason the cost is going up is because they aren't made anymore but the demand is still there. I use to be able to buy a complete original setup for $200. Today I've seen them go for close to ten times that for one that isn't complete and modified. Like everything else related to the 40 series the prices keep going up. In reality not many are going to spend all the money to restore a FJ40 and then use it as intended. Just lucky I'm been at it long enough I can afford to use mine.
