Hi all, does anyone have experience replacing the input shaft bearing in their manual cruiser? Im wondering if its a job I can do my self or not as im not sure if i need to open the actual box up. I consider my self quite mechanically inclined and have manual converted cars in the past and pulled plenty of gearboxes but never actually split one open and im not sure what im in for. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I cannot attest to the H series of transmissions specifically. However, the R series requires disassembly. If you remove the front input shaft bearing retainer there is a circlip at the top of the bearing keeping it from falling into the case, but otherwise no way to remove the bearing from the top.

There are generally 2 bearings in the input. The main outer bearing and a pocket needle roller bearing in the backside. I would advise you replace both, along with the pilot bearing or bushing on the flywheel side.

You will need to open the box. But not fully tear it down. You can get the front shaft out after splitting the cases without doing a full disassembly of the main gear clusters

From the sound of it, you'll be alright. They aren't super complicated.

I'm sure Roger aka @DivByZero can answer questions or take pics if needed
