I am thinking about purchasing a 1997 80 series Cruiser and was wanting to know what the biggest tire size is I can put on a stock suspension. And also what lift kit options are available. From what I have read the OME seems to be the one of choice.

33" ~ 285/75 R16

You have read correctly.

285/70R16, 305/70R16, both are about 33x12.50s (the 285 is a little less that 12" wide and the 305 is a little more than 12" wide) will fit w/ stock springs. The 295s may also work, but don't quote me.

OME is the only game in town (other than Slee's 6" springs, if you want to run 37s). Check www.sleeoffroad.com for more info on OME lifts, as well as ARBUSA.com.

You can also try the Search function, may find a lot more reading there.

295's do fit stock, but it's tight, and with my Kaymar rear bumper and tire carrier the rear tires would rub going over speedbumps too fast with passengers in the back. I think they barely rubbed just as I was hitting the bump stops.

How big can I go with a 3" lift

Thanks for the replies so far. How big of a tire can I go with using a 3" lift 35's maybe or would I have to go with a 4/5" lift. I don't plan on doing any serious offroading just some flatland mud. Anything I need to look at on this 97 80 series that may have been a problem. They did say they replaced the rear main seal, the vehicle has 136K miles on it.

"I don't plan on doing any serious offroading just some flatland mud"

If that is truely the case, then 33's will be just fine. You get into a few more issues if you want to run 35's. Slee has a write up on his site "So you want to run 35's"

Also, read this for many things to look for when purchasing an 80 series.

They have been addressed, I promisel

I just put Firestone Destination M/T's on my Fzj80, 285/75-16's. They fit nicely!

31x10.5s fit just fine on my 92 with a 2.5" OME system.

They also fit fine on my 91' stock suspension...

I'm gonna run 33x12.50 pro comp mud terrains. 31x10.5 BFG Long trail Radials suck. Street tires don't like mud, my friends with heeps laugh at me when I go up a hill and start spinning everywhere :(

Keep in mind 31s were an option on 91s.

I am running 265/75/16s on my 91 and would fit fine stock (~32 inches).

Would be a good option for bigger on stock without rubbage.
