I'm looking for rear axle options:o I want to go full floater:o:o

Does anyone know if my 60 ring and pinion will bolt onto an 80 carrier? Or will a 60 3rd fall into a 80 diff? I figure a non-elocked 80 rear axle may be an unpopular swap, making it more available and hopefully less expensive. However, I don't really don't want to spring for a new r&p set(4:88's). Additionally, I'm content w/ an Aussie type locker over a $$$elocker/arb$$$$$.

Any other ideas out there for a full floater on the cheap?

dude, ever heard of the skinny pedal

:hhmm: maybe google "finesse"

sorry, couldn't resist :flipoff2:

The toyota junk hard in tempe off of university had a 80 with non locked axles the last time I checked. Could be an option worth checking anyways.

from what ive seen a non locked 80 axle is still the same or more than a full float from SOR,,, your 60 3rd is a bolt on to an 80 housing, no problem.
i am still undecided if full float cruiser axle is stronger than semi float cruiser axle, but full float is in the future for me, if only to get rid of c-clips.

I googled "finesse", but I still can't keep the wheels on my truck?

Thanks for the info on the 60 series FF. I have see them before, but it seems anti-climactic to upgrade w/o disc brakes.

I've got a 3/4 ton 14bolt on my motor donor truck. That would lead to a 203/205 t-case set up instead of a 203/splitcase. Too much GM.

I like the 80 series idea...

1) Full float
2) disc brakes
3) offset diff
4) Toyota

However, I may be tempted to link it instead of reinstalling leaf springs. Honestly, sounds like more of a project than I have time/money for right now. Guess I just have to wheel my rig a little more soberly.

If anyone has a spare long side 60 axle shaft, I'd be interested. (need to replace the replacement)

well ya know, for about 200 bones you can have a shaft made, then by shortening only the one side of a full size axle your in like flynn. i was planning to do this with a D60 rear, got the shortened shaft right here. still on the burners, no hurry for anything in my world.

I would hit up Bill Chestnut (yldbill) - don't see him around mud much anymore, but I believe he got a set of 60 axles at the begining of the year to do a full swap for his 40 - but I don't think he went forward with the plan.

Said axles are in my side yard. He has yet to pick them up. I borrowed the shaft to get me home...

I should be able to get her on the road w/ parts on hand, but I'm researching and see what I stumble upon. Good info, thanks.

BTW - what mods, if any, need to be made to run a 60 3rd in an 80 rear?

none, the only difference in that regard is the long splines on the one shaft for locker equipt axles.

i got a special long spline shaft like 5 yrs ago to put an 80 e-locker in my 55 rear axle. thats collecting dust with the special D60 shaft. i change my mind too much.

BTW, stripping or breaking ring gear teeth is also a common problem by deflection from loose carrier bearing preload.
