I understand the logic but even after making that long pull when Lance was dead in the water at GSMTR and I had to pull him up that hill I didn't have any trouble. We did stop every few minutes to give the winch a rest as it was getting hot. That was probably pulling for a good 45 minutes or so.....pull for 5, stop for 5 - 10 minutes. Just seems to me that as long as you don't kill the engine after winching for long pulls you will be fine. Oh, and I usually carry a set of jumper cables with me.......

I would think that you would experience what Larry has seen, popped solenoids or even an over heated winch motor, before you would have battery issues as long as the engine continues to run. I do agree that a dual battery set-up would be CYA but I haven't found the NEED for it yet.

I agree Mike it's not necessary, but provides a good piece of mind. With that said, I have a couple extra Batteries laying in the garage and a Blue Sea system ready to be installed. It just hasn't taken priority over all of the other projects yet.

Hey I've been stuck there! It cost Larry a Solenoid and a Croc IIRC.

LOL, this is true You and my younger brother have the record for worst stuck incidents I've seen. When you get stuck you do it right I think in your case the fact that we had such a long pull to get any good footing and the fact the sandy bottom was soft and you were dug down pretty deep made it a tough pull that overheated the solenoids. I haven't went near that spot ever since lesson learned.

That will be a nice setup and you'll certainly have a good piece of mind when running both winches. Your 80 will need some official extraction vehicle badges

I ran dual batteries in my first Toyota with a Warn 8274 winch and this was before lockers and lower gears. My buddies that I wheeled with also did not have money for gears and lockers (we did not have the skill to set them up our self or pay anyone to do it) The dual batteries really helped out cause if one of us got stuck more than likely we were all getting stuck in the mud. And yea my alt could not keep up with the demand that the winch would put on the batteries(even with engine rpm's raised) it just bought me more time before the pulls became slow.

Currently I only run one battery and when I use the winch (biggest lesson I've learned is to be patient when winching) is to give it time to cool and try not to hold the botton down on the whole pull. I had the set up but for the cost of BIGGER cables for the winch, extra battery, battery switch / isolators, etc. I just accept I can only pull so much before the winch needs a rest.

Long winch pulls were apart of my mudding days. College era.. No money just had to be patient.. good thing the zuk was light.

I hardly ever use my winch now rockcrawling compared to muddin'. In my 80 I have single battery stock alternator and discipline not patience.. Rev the motor & rock out.

FYI...

It looks like someone at Metal Tech mis-typed the sale paper this month and they are honoring it. The new HD Adjustable 80 Lower Rear Links were retailing for $375 and they intro priced them on the Mud for $300 last month. The sales paper advertised List at $325 and on sale for $275...

Long Story Short... You can buy them this month $100 cheaper than they will list for next month

Nice I've been eyeing a set of those too, if I didn't just hand over $1200 for a 5th hitch I'd bite. I still might I'll just have to think about it a little longer . My drivers rear is bent was contemplating taking it off to straighten and go over it with a beefier sleeve but it sounds much easier to get replacements. What shop was making the high clearance ones, I was eyeing that design as well.

I have the heim adjustable uppers to adjust the pitch on my rear third I need to get some measurements so I can get the corrects lowers as well. I wonder if Mark can accomidate for the extended as well, maybe not for the great price

Hummmmmmm adding windshield washer fluid the easy way ?

LOL, it sure is easier to get to the windshield washer fluid among other fluids this way Albert Cody for now the ultimate 60 frontend will have to wait until the winter but I did figure a way to make it work just can't make it happen in a month. For now it'll get the GTP hood vents that are in, new paint on most of the front end while off. I wanted a complete paint job but the paint man laughed at me when I said he had a month to do it. Also will remove the snorkel seems I pulled it out of the plastic inserts on the windshield pillar on a few trees in Tennessee so will get some captured nuts in there for something a little more sturdy. While the hood and grille are out I will run cable and relocate the winch solenoid under the hood and relocate the windshield washer jug by the cruise control unit. Flushed and refilled the rear diff and transfer case tonight and replaced the drain and fill plugs with Marlin plugs I had to chisel the drain plug off the rocks rounded it off. Will relocate the bumper lights to the roof rack and mount a short highlift on the front bumper. Will cut the rear cross member tomorrow to start on a bumper template as well. If that all works as planned I'll be in good shape if it don't well I'll run it and enjoy it however it lays when it's time to load it on the trailer for SCC

Ding, ding, ding you got it bud thanks for the pointer on the tape for hood alignment I can see that will work much easier. Not sure the old method of scribing it around the hinge would be very visible it was pretty dirty under there

Nice Plan! When I installed my snorkel I used aluminum nutserts (or rivetnuts) and machined SS screws on the A pillar. Not sure if that's what you mean by captured nuts, but I can ship you my nutsert tool if you don't have access to one and I can get it back from you at SCC. That would be much cheaper than buying one of those boogers.
