SOOOOOO excited for this. I've already put the dates down at work. Set a calendar reminder for the registration. I may be rocking a bone stock LX, but I have missed it so much since HIH3 when @paflytyer taught my boy how to catch the trout in clear lake. There is no way in the world I am missing anymore. Bringing the family this time. It's the only thing we are doing this year. Now to figure out how to load and haul all the gear! Sounds like a good excuse to get/make a roof rack! Anybody have plans for DIY roof rack and or sliders!?

Also...southern crew. Who's doing the planning for the drive out?

I'm glad you got something worked out on the showers. The camp showers last year were ok, but they were tight and not very clean.

I don't mind camping on the ground, but as I get older, I like a nice hot shower in the morning!

Looking forward to it! How many trucks this year? 100?

Always an option to stay in a motel/hotel like 1 mile away. Gets you a bed and a shower.

Haven't dialed in the exact number of rigs yet but a little north of last year is probable.

Thx

Considering that last year was the first time we ever had showers and you couldn't have even camped at that location for what everyone paid for registration, I think it worked out pretty well. This isn't a glamor event but we do try and make it as nice as possible for everyone. It's a camping event in the mountains. There are moderately priced hotels in Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway and Durango. There are upscale hotels available in Telluride.

What we have this year is a portable shower trailer. It's probably tight. It's used for weddings/events in the mountains. You can spend as little or as much as you'd like by renting a home through VRBO.

FWIW, most events in the area do not have showers. You can pay per use at most RV campgrounds, Ouray gas stations (tighter showers than HIH6) and the Ouray Hot Springs pool.

Additionally....

Renting a shower at the place we camped last year, would have been $12 per use. We negotiated that into the price of what we paid to rent the entire property so folks wouldn't have to pay to shower. Camping was $25 per night. We also took care of that cost. Chris and I came out of our own pockets to host last year's event.

Thought we would make it last year but plans fell apart. Definitely coming this year. Wife and 7 yr old daughter. Driving out from KY but will probably be heading out a little early for a pit stop with some friends that live in Boulder. Trying to make this about a 2 week trip. If anyone is heading out from the Southeast please keep me in the loop for a possible caravan, either there or home.
Any other kids in that age group going? My daughter would love to have a "buddy" to look forward to.

For the past few years there has been a "southern 100's" club that usually meets up somewhere to roll. @ntsaint I think may be the ring leader? We will leave from Arkansas and take a couple days getting there.

There are almost always kids of that age. We usually have babies through high school aged kids in attendance.

FOR EVERYONE:

Feel free to bring bikes for kids. The area around camp is flat. Please remember that there will be a lot of vehicles entering/exiting HIH7 headquarters. There is a large area near the lodge that's used for ice skating in the winter. It's about the size of an ice rink with a gravel floor. There's room to run r/c trucks or play catch in there. It's blocked off and out of the way.

The ski hill can be climbed and ridden down as well. We're working on getting the ski lift running, but it's not really setup for summer use. They use snow to build a exit area from the chair lift. We're trying to get them to build a platform so kids can ride the small lift (with parents) and bike down the hill. That's still a bit of a long shot.

I will update post #1 with this info as well.

I will be bringing my 14 y.o. daughter who is very friendly to kids of all ages (and has taken the Red Cross babysitter certification) and my 15 y.o. son who is friendly to everyone except his parents and sister.

I am planning to go with wife and 6 yr old son, driving from KY as well. Same here, I am also interested to caravan depending on the schedule. Our tentative planning is to leave early, and do some sight seeing before HIH.

There is no choice about registration for me. I am going to this event! LOL...anyway...I am bring my wife, who isn't very enthusiastic about off-roading, and my 12 and 5 year old boys. And I am not kidding about the registration...HIH3 was super awesome. I sold my truck because I'm dumb and missed every HIH since then. Still followed every the last three, and when I saw a picture of my old truck on the HIH6 trip report, it wasn't very long afterwards that I went and found another LX to get into. My heart has been aching ever since I sold my other LX and missing the last three HIH, so I am going this year! And I am not going to miss another one again!

Had a spot last year, but had to cancel due to circumstances. Hoping to get a spot this year and looking forward to the amazing opportunity! Once again thanks to @paflytyer and @bluecruiser for creating such an awesome event and turning it into the mecca that it is today!

Assuming registration goes ok, I'll have my 9 y/o daughter and 7 y/o son.

I agree with you, I think getting registered is going to be the hard part.

Hoping to attend , this will be my family's first HIH. But our 3rd trip to this area, absolutely gorgeous! Is it boondock camping only if you bring a camper?

Not quite sure what boondock camping is, but the site will be able to be used by people with ground tents, roof top tents, overland type trailers with RTTs on top, pop up trailers, teardrop style trailers, small travel type trailers. Basically, of your Hundy can tow it, we will have a spot for it. Hope that helps.
