Anyone know if a 78 windshield matches up and fits on a 70 Fj40? Other parts interchangeable?

Will work. Need the 75+ windshield hinges to clear the wiper motor when the windshield is folded down. Need to do some rewiring of the wiper motor. With a 78 you can either use the windshield nozzles on the hood or redo the tubing to the one on top of the windshield. Also the holes to secure the top to the windshield won't line up. 70 had four bolts, 78 only had two in different locations. Hood pads and hold will need to be adjusted a little also.

Hi all,

Chiro6262, do you mean whether '78 windshield glass will fit into a '70 windshield frame?
If so the answer is no. The 1970 era windshield glass is taller than the 1978 vintage windshield glass.

Regards,

Alan

Assuming you're talking about the w/s frame, you would also need to provide clearance on the valance on your early hardtop to clear the wiper shafts and washer nozzle.

Nozzle yes if switch from the two that are stock on a 70 hood. The wiper shafts would be on the bottom.

Duh! Been a long day, I was thinking of a top I had with the opposite configuration. Late top on early w/s frame.:meh:

wiring is on opposite sides of vehicle but with a little work they interchange fine

I have a '79 w/s frame on my '72 an the wiper motor wiring is different, but an easy fix. I have a '76 switch and had to change around a couple wires at the connection. Or you could just run a switch from a '78.
