Just bought my first 40, and had to crawl under it in the mud to shift it into 4wheel drive because the transfer case linkage popped out. truck has a GM tranny (apologies) but i'm told the tcase is OEM. Seems the linkage just sorta sits in a little notch on the selector that comes out of the tcase, and perhaps my fumbling with a new shifter popped it out... or is there supposed to be more to this and i'm missing something? Doesnt look like theres any room for a pin :S

The notch is normal, although I'm surprised it popped out. Maybe the shifter is loose/worn at the pivot?

yah seems like a bit of play in it. Hasnt bothered me since tho. thanks for the quick reply:)

The linkage bolts directly to the original transmission, so however it's set up on yours, it's not original and subject to any differences from the original design. The original linkage is very tight and works well, even though there's no pin.

Musashi, here's a quick and inexpensive fix; purchase an allen head bolt, 12mm by 50mm long with head size of .700 to .710 diameter. Drill out the hole in the bottom of your shifting arm to .465. Now 12mm bolt will mount into bottom of shifting arm, fit snuggly into the shaft of the shifting chamber, and two 12mm jam nuts will allow you to:
(a) lock/jam nut 12mm bolt into hole at bottom of shift arm.
(b) adjust head of 12mm bolt inward or outward for tight fit into shaft of the shifting chamber.
