So I am looking at at '76 and wondering if it is ok to run unleaded gas in it?? Kind of a noob question but I know it is ok in my '78, can anyone charm in on the '76??

Thanks!!!

Yes.

And your option would be? We have one station in town that has no ethanol and I fill up there whenever possible. Ethanol be bad juju....

It is a farm store. I use their diesel whenever possible also. The truckers swear by it.

Is there options? Can you really still buy leaded gas? In most states it's illegal to run leaded gas on the highway. Many old school mechanics recommend adding 2 stroke oils to the gas. It slows detonation and evaporation and lubricates the upper workings. All these are the properties that made lead a favorable additive.

A more proven and accepted additive that does the same is Marvel Mystery Oil. It has quite a long history

We have a few stations that offer Ethanol Free gas - old vehicles and boaters swear by it. I try to find my way there, 87 EF is same price as Super Unleaded or Diesel (which i have to use for my F350).

I HAVE HEARD... that many fuel delivery companies collect & deliver fuel from different fuel suppliers... so it is not likely that you EVER get pure fuel at a station. An exception would be an area where there is a corporate owned gas staion, served by corporate owned delivery trucks, and filled from a corporate owned refinery / supply location. My neighbor used to drive a fuel tanker. Also, if you KNOW FOR SURE that the station is low on fuel - slower than usual pumps, you know what day of the week they get fuel - AVOID FILLING UP WHEN THE TANKS ARE LOW. The trash / algae / condensation / sediment in the station tanks has a higher chance of getting into your rig if the station levels are low.

Gotcha, I was just wondering if the heads required lead in the '76 2F motor. Now that I think of it my Dad's '75 Ford F250 Camper Special "Ranger" ran on unleaded I think. Yes I have been searching for non ethanol up here in AZ and the I hear a station in Sedona carries it in 91 octane. Many in Phoenix do as well. Hey guys, another '76 question; the birfields on the front axle of the '76, are they the fine spline???

The 76 owners manual specifies 90 octane fuel which is about the same a 89 mid grade. Check with your local Shell station mine carries 89 non ethanol for about a quarter a gallon more than ethanol unleaded regular. When I changed over to the mid grade my mileage and performance improved noticeably.

10% is an average just so you know, gas companies are required to report every quarter there ethanol contents and it has to average around 10%, they aren't strict enough on it and I've heard reports of it being as high as 20% at some times, then again it could get down lower to equal out but still its crap and not good on old carbs and tears up lawn equipment.

found ethanol free gas station 5 mins from my house! I can't believe I didn't know this....thanks guys!

Lead Free and Ethanol Free are not the same thing. Lead was added to help lubricate/protect the exhaust valves. Ethanol was added to raise the price of corn.

Good to know, Toyota reccomends 89.

or 90.............sorry
