GENERAL
I bought this cruiser in ~1991 and, like many, went through a series of mods towards more extreme wheeling. My first trip to GSMTR I pulled a trailer behind this 40 and on my last trip five years ago, it was on a trailer. I have run every trail challenge that GSMTR had to offer as well as runs around the Midwest and South Dakota.

This is an experienced rockcrawler so it has some trail rash, but rust is not an issue. I put on a Gen 1 Aqualu body tub and replaced any other parts that had shown rust. The frame is absolutely solid.

Pros:
58,000 miles on original 2F engine.
TBI Conversion (Affordable Fuel Injection harness/chip, SpaceGhost adapter)
- extra ECM with Howell chip
DUI HEI Distributor
36 x 12.50 Swamper SX tires (90+% tread)
Warn 8274 winch
ARB Air Locker (front)
Springover axle conversion
SM420 tranny, T-case from 3-speed, twin stick shifters
Full floating, 1-ton rear end from FJ45 (welded)
York air compressor for on-board air (ARB + reserve tank with quick release fitting)
Saginaw PS
Rear mounted "Semi" type storage box
1st Generation Aqualu aluminum tub
Seats - Toyota Supra
Steering Wheel/Column - Toyota Mini-truck

Cons:
Body - rollover on my last GSMTR trip 5 years ago. Replaced windshield and frame, but there are still a dents in the hood, fenders, body... Most have been knocked out and overall it looks pretty good. No rust issues. The custom roll cage has a slight tilt to the right from this same rollover.
No roof/doors. There is a new bikini top, but I only use this cruiser off-road.

Extras:
Numerous extras are available and negotiable. Besides the mentioned extra ECM and chip, I can throw in a PROM burner that works for the ECM PROMs. I also have plenty of other parts....

running out now

Picture 3 is from the driver's side, rear corner where I have the air controls and quick connect mounted. It's protected in the corner, under the body lip and easily accessed for air (top) or to test/repair the ARB fittings.

Let me know what else you'd like to see and I can try to get more next week.

Bump

I have two interested parties, but no money on the table yet so it's still up for sale.

Bump

For the second time I've had a buyer back out a couple of days before they were scheduled to come into town to buy it. Bottom line, it's a great cruiser and still for sale.

Thanks.

FJ40 PTO

All answers:

Yes, it's still for sale.

Front axle - stock with an ARB Air Locker

PTO - I believe you'll need a PTO that was intended for a t-case from the 3-speed era. Also you may have to change the shaft length a small amount since the SM420 conversion moves the placement of the t-case slightly. It's not much though so I'm not sure if you'll have to do that.

Nothing like selling a cruiser with only a bikini top in Indiana in the winter :)

Damnit Tim! You're really tempting me here! I'm still saving my pennies! She sure would look great sitting in my new third garage bay!

It should tempt you

AJ. I'd love to see you with this cruiser. I can't wheel it anymore - no tow rig. I need to get it out of Richard's garage by May or so. I want to start work on building or buying a BJ42 by then. I am going to start wheeling my 80 - hopefully Carl is still making sliders... I can drive it to the local off road areas so I won't miss having a tow rig.

If you are really interested, I can wait. Like I said I won't do much else till May.

Bump - spring is here. I knew it would be tough to sell a topless cruiser over the winter in Indiana. Here you go. Highly modified, capable and ready to wheel.

Diesel,

I have kept an eye on this rig for a while now. I need to sell something if I am going to buy this. Good luck.

PTO,

Do it. You won't regret it, it's a great cruiser.

I've dropped the price to $5000. I'm going to give it a week and then, if it's not sold I'll put it on ebay. I need to get it out of my uncle's garage, it's been there too long. It's a great cruiser with tons of features. Just a great value. Will consider all offers.

No, not interested in a 62. I would entertain trade options for a 5-speed BJ60 or BJ42.
