I'll contact my MVD and inquire re the legality. What can you tell me about the truck that I can relay to them? ie Is there a title? if so where is it registered? Under perfect circumstances I'd use the truck the way it sits, but from what I gather that wont be the case, so I'd be swapping out a frame or other major component etc. Thanks.
So you're basically looking for a street legal Ute?
While there might be a few exceptions, the 79 Series should be to new to legally import. Even the 75 Series Ute is somewhat rare in the U.S.

People here in Canada have used an 80 series chassis to put on the road or we have what you call a "Rebuilt" title which is another way you can put on the road. Not sure what laws your State has?? Have one of these for sale...but they are ex mining trucks and dont have a title so you would import into the US as parts....
