Hello All,

I have a '74 FJ40 with which what I think is the "F1.5." I purchased a power steering pump bracket from Bill Dorry, and it goes where my alternator is now. I need help with a bracket to move my alt. to the right side. The other problem is my engine is smogged with the pump on the upper right. Is this all possible? Can I move my alt. under my smog pump on the right side? Must I desmog my engine? My cruiser is smog exempt in CA. I also need to track down the steering gear scab plate. Anybody still custom fabbing these for a reasonable price?

Thanks for your help....

For the scab plate, Georg, OrangeFJ45. Remove the air pump and get a 2F alternator bracket and move the alt to the pass side. They are out there for about $15-20. Since you have/had an airpump you already have a 2 groove balancer. I did this swap on the same engine.

Georg is the goods with parts! He's honest, fair, and quick on his shipping! I never knew he had a Saginaw plates until now. There are other saginaw plates out there from reputable folks as well. Cruiser Outfitters and Downey are two others I've dealt with that are right up there with Georg!

GL, what if I want to keep the air pump? I don't know if I want to remove the smog equipment

I mounted the alternator and the power steering pump both on the drivers side. I put the alternator under the pump which is mounted with a bracket from MAF. I also had to get a 2 groove pulley for the crank. Sorry i don't have any pictures but i will try and get some.

Thanks Kyle, I'll look into it right away. Please keep the pictures coming. Is the pump, or the alt. mounted with the bracket from MAF?

the pump bracket is from MAF and the alternator is a bracket i fabbed up. if you know how to weld its an easy one to build. no pictures yet maybe when the rain stops ill get them.

Kyle, I'm not very far from you being in Bakersfield and I'm always driving the 126. Maybe we could hookup somtime and I could get a first hand look. PM me when you get a chance.
