Will I need to get the smaller jump seats if I decide to install a stock roll bar?

That would work best.

Stock bar-

Are you just going for looks, or are you really looking for/expecting some protection?

Mainly for looks. I bought the rollbar and set it in the truck and the set the jump seat and realized it would not bolt to the frame. I think I will just mount the bar and get the shorter seats. Would this roll cage be protective if I used the original back with a full cage welded to it or would it be better to start at scratch.

I'm in the same position. If it is a stock roll bar won't do much to save your life in a bad roll, pretty much just bolts to the wheel well. There is a way to mount the longer jumpseats in front of a stock roll bar. You will need to mount extension brackets onto the jumpseat and move the rubber bumpers back so they catch on the wheel well. If you come up with something better let me know. The problem with just getting the shorter jumpseats is finding them then shelling out a ridiculous amount of money for them. I'm contimplating just going with a a fold and tumble rear bench seat with the stock rollbar.

thanks, I am going to see if I can find the short ones and sell my existing ones. I will let you know the price

I have the stock roll bar with the original longer seats installed. My dad actually did it back in the 70's. If you need, I'll try to take a pic tonight if you need.

It would be best to start from scratch, or get a kit from Metal Tech.

A stock roll bar is decorative at best.

The fact that it bolts to the wheel well and rear inner fender reinforcement brackets in a stock 09/73 and later 40 series is not really the problem; it is the tin-foil thickness of the tubing that makes it marginal at best to rely on for any form of protection in a light rollover.
